A Dublintaxi driver had a lucky escape when his car ploughed into a lamppost after he was assaulted by a passenger in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The driver, who is in his mid-30s, was treated for minor injuries following the crash on Lower Kilmacud Road, Stillorgan, south Dublin at around 2.30am on December 28.

His alleged attacker fled the scene on foot while the driver was taken to hospital to be treated for his injuries.

It is understood the cabbie picked up the attacker and a woman in the Sandyford area.

He dropped the woman off before heading for Kilmacud Road where the passenger suddenly became violent, grabbing the driver by the neck and then punching him.

The driver then lost control of the taxi, causing it to crash into the lamppost.

A Garda spokeswoman told Dublin Live they are continuing to investigate the incident.

She said: "GardaĆ are investigating an assault that occurred on the Kilmacud Rd lower, Stillorgan Co Dublin on Dec 28, 2019 at approximately 2.30am.

"A taxi driver (male in his 30s) was allegedly assaulted in the taxi while driving.

"The car then struck a utility pole and the passengers fled on foot.

"The driver was taken to hospital with non life threatening injuries. No arrests have been made and investigations are ongoing."
If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.

Yes I saw the guards breathalysing him just at the PTSB on Lr Kilmacud Rd, with the car bet into a wooden telegraph pole. Driver checked him at the time, and yes, not an indigenous Irish name. Two other taxis stopped close by, don't know it witnesses or what.
Trump has called for help, so I'm on a plane heading for The Strait of Hormuz, talk soon.

I wonder did he print a receipt of the alleged journey.
Good excuse for a momentary lapse of concentration.

There is more to this story, apparently he dropped the lady on the northern side of the N11, and the chap wanted to go to Monkstown Farm, also on the northern side of the N11, so why was he back over on kilmacud road. I cannot find the report that stated this info but I definitely read it somewhere
