The vans get filled only at certain depots AFAIK.Mate of mine was in Finglas and he'd spend a lot of time in the south inner city.Even as far as Ballsbridge and Kilmainham.

Electric bikes are what's licensed so far. I'd imagine scooters will follow, they work well in other cities but are wholly unsuitable for suburban travel.

A few fatalities will bring the popularity down.

Didn't work for taxis... folk killing each other at DAP last Monday evening to get into a cab regardless of the relatively high probability of being raped and/or murdered or worse.

That's Uner:

Proportionately licensed taxis in Ireland are a lot more dangerous than Uber Rideshare in the US. Probably makes a good case for introducing P2P rideshare here, to be honest.

I guess they will be licensed, MMW. From the OP:

Dublin City Council has said that two Irish companies, BleeperBike and Moby, will be licensed to hire out “pedelecs” (electrically assisted pedal cycles) throughout the capital.

I'd imagine the companies that operate them would be liable for any damage they cause? I'd certainly claim against them if they damaged me or my property... but, hopefully they'll be restricted to the city centre, well away from my workplace.

North of Collins Ave and east of Ballymun Rd, excluding Zone 18 pickups. I'm actually thinking of narrowing the boundaries a bit in response to the 25% freight increase... I'll keep you informed.
