Used to be gas, with us ,and the alarm installers
There was always a race to see who would get to the ETU at the side of the house first.all the new houses were pre wired for alarm, phone cable tv etc.there was a good 2 pair cable installed by the buulder, and a shite one as well.we used to be tripping over oyrselves to get to the house first to get the good cable

Vikk virgin always allocate a new number when you apply for their services.you can hang on to your old number upon request.it is just a matter of then requesting eir to enable your existing number on MDF (main distrabution frame ) on a new L I ,and providing service
It’s only useful if you were a previous Eir customer. Which I wasn’t, so 555 is the start of my home phone number

No not yet coola,it will be a few weeks yet,and even then im seriously undecided wether ill be coming back at all or not.even before any of this happened I thought about it.I always said I would not join a dispatcher, but I also realize im fukked if I dont because I have no chance of making a living.im now one of those independents who seriously needs to consider his future.

Daly the job is relatively expensive to stay in compared to a few years ago.I'd think long and hard whether you can keep up with the new costs of being on the road especially when you shouldn't be stressing yourself and you have another income stream...even though it's only a small wee pension.

10k a year before you make a cent for yourself.

No I hear ya,and agree.I dont know what to do.I would not mind the outlay if there were a lot less taxis.but every second car on the road is a taxi, coupled with the fact that they are nearly all aligned with a dispatcher ,it makes it extremely difficult for an independent to operate in those circumstances .its kind of hard to justify the outlay.my only hope is that drivers will get rid of dispatchers out of the industry, and this could happen if they keep putting their commission up

Drivers are pissed off but still not enough to make a serious difference. Some lads have major overheads in rentals. As much as 25k or even 35/40k if you include a commission to Free now before they make any profit.

Even if we dump Free now there will be another app that will be nicer and cheaper for a while but they'll most likely sell out to Uber/Freenow or someone else down the road. Even yer man that started Uber has sold his shares and moved on to other things.

Customers(and drivers)are addicted to smartphones. Just look at the people walking around town staring into a phone screen for 80% of their time outdoors. That's gonna be hard to reverse.

The banks are selling off some of their ATMs so if private companies operate them it could cost 2/3 euro make a withdrawal which will make cash even more unpopular. This suits the banks as it costs them to handle cash.

You may be able to stand your ground and take cash only, but you'll be less busy with the same overheads as the Freenow/Flag/Taxy Ambassador clearing up in half of the hours.

If I had another income and no mortgage I'd go travelling. Maybe you could borrow a taxi for a few nights a week when you need extra cash.I'm really surprised we haven't seen cosying return. To leave such an expensive asset parked up not earning is a waste even though I wouldn't want mine out getting puked in all year.

You can have all the apps, and radio dispatchers you like, but if drivers are not prepared to use themtheen what use are they ? the fact that drivers have the power to control the whole taxi industry, seems to be lost on them.they would rather let the likes of Kearns,Kelly, and Ebbs  control them .I will NEVER understand why

All newer drivers are prolific app users. They don't know any different. They don't remember a time when there was either radio work or street work.Sure I didn't see it for too long meself TBH.When the deregulation era lads retire fairly soon the memory of cash work will be gone with them.

Night drivers see much more cash than day drivers but that won't be for long.Even when I'm on a rank I'm getting hassled to take cards. It's just expected now during the day shift from business users.

I still see lads paying for one pint with their cards in the pub.Not a problem.Never any complaints form the bar staff. They just tap the machine and walk off.Faster than a cash customer.

Well with cash gone,by the same token so are tips and this is the drivers fault for not supporting the protest to oppose the NTA illegal demand that we offer CC facilities

Dont know what to do coola ,I might just wait and see if there. will be less taxis when drivers realize the full costs.there are far to many taxis, and not so long ago the NTA werr looking for another 1600 .no doubt Kearns Kelly ,and Ebbs were whinging in their ear

Stay registered as self-employed while you consider your options. You can still generate losses to offset against other income or carry forward. You might want to consider making voluntary PRSI contributions too... What you should be looking at right now is the long-term illness benefit which, I think, you should be eligible for after a year off sick.
If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.
