I admire your confidence Dalyer but i honestly don't think they're filling us with bullshit in relation to how bad it's gonna get and in particular the pressure the health service is gonna come under....but i agree about the young peoples contribution....or lack of!!

Its a different world now then a few weeks ago.I do hope lads that are still working see the sense in stopping as this virus is attacking ALL ages. Think of your health is your wealth.I wouldn't listen to freenow or other taxi corporations making a buck out of a pandemic.Its Russian roulette driving a taxi now.

Hard to believe there are lads out there still driving taxis because they are afraid to refuse the likes of Ebbs and his likes in case they pay the price later.I just cannot believe Ebbs is there sitting at home probably in the full knowledge that drivers who work in conjunction with his company are out there is driving taxis risking life,and limp .words really defy me.its a new low for dispatchers,and F/N are just as guilty

Just to reiterate:

It's up to Govt to decide what businesses should close and when. Nobody should be discouraged by posters on here. If you want to work, as things stand the experts say you can. Check out the HSE site and make sure you understand how the virus is transmitted from person to person - basically an infected person needs to cough or sneeze (sneezing isn't a common symptom) into your nose, mouth or eyes on onto a surface that you subsequently touch and transfer to your nose, mouth or eyes. Using an alcohol hand sanitiser kills the virus on your hands and normal household disinfectants kill it on surfaces.

To be honest, you're gonna touch a lot of infected surfaces and produce if you leave the gaff, particularly if you go to a supermarket where thousands of shoppers pass through so you should already be paying attention to hand hygiene and disinfecting surfaces and stuff others have touched.

Not going to work will not make you immune to the virus. Nobody is trying to prevent it's spread or stop you from getting it. What Govt and HSE are trying to do is slow the spread to maintain deaths and illness at manageable levels rather than having everyone sick at the same time. In all likelihood a vaccine and improved treatments will be developed as time progresses, that's an obvious incentive for individuals to try to hold out as long as possible. If that's what you want to do I guess self-isolation is the place to be. However, as a community we must take our advice and instruction from Govt, who are acting on expert advice with regard to whatever targets they have set for managing the spread of the virus.

I think that was the advice a couple of weeks ago.Yesterday Simon Harris praised the staff at Glendalough for closing the car park to maintain social distancing.I can't find the video but he basically said if your business can't maintain social distancing you should close.I'm paraphrasing but the message is clear to me.

What I can't grasp is why they insist that we all maintain a two-meter gap outdoors where the particles are massively diluted with fresh air but getting on the Bus/luas or in a taxi is fine.

All the government speeches I've watched and no taxis or limo scum were praised for doing their jobs.Just shop and pharmacy workers and medical staff.Something doesn't feel right to me.I suspect a statement from the NTA is coming.

Quite possibly. Obviously a statement would be welcome. I heard the Glendalough interview... the context is a little different to a space within a motor car as you're dealing with relatively large numbers of people in close proximity and face to face contact. In a taxi you would have small numbers and generally face to head or cheek to cheek in the front seat. Obviously a taxi driver can disinfect the bits of the car he touches after every ride, something that isn't practical for those dealing with continuous relatively large volumes of people.

I dunno how many of yis have been out and about walking but folks are nearly on the road to maintain social distancing.It just seems odd that we're not being given better instructions.Our cars were never designed to be used commercially like the bus/luas.The surfaces are near impossible to clean 100% IMO.

The London black cabs are probably a better solution for this situation.
