MFH while the civil service are slow to act, make no mistake about it they will check. Minister Humpheries recently made a statement saying anyone found to defrauded the dept of social protection, will be dealth with, by the full rigors of the law. I for one believe her

What made them think they were immune... not working? ... being cabbies? ... being close knit?

We have a pretty low death rate here with plenty of drivers working but we're a pretty divided bunch.
If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.

So far, so good. Our trade is obviously doing something right. Maybe that should be examined in more detail with a view to devising guidelines for other less fortunate trades / professions / vocations / geographical areas?

Maybe so... but we're clear of Cheltenham now... when a lot of drivers (myself included) would have been out drinking and punting.... and we're over 14 days from when pubs were supposed to close or restrict service to home delivery.

What exactly are the figures?  who do they come from? and how  do they arrive at these numbers?

what exactly is it that makes 2 metres "safe" and under two metres  "dangerous"  who was it that  decided on 2 metres  and how did they arrive at that distance?

I'd say they are just airing on the side of caution. I don't think it has ever been defined by anybody what a safe distance is, but it is probably based on other forms of Corona viruses like flu, common cold etc

2 Metres me bollx , this crew seem to think otherwise:

"But according to research by scientists at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, it’s not just the person next to us we should worry about: coughing spreads droplets as far as six metres, and sneezing as much as eight metres. These droplets stay suspended in the air for up to 10 minutes."

Formula based on probabilities including the probability of someone having the virus, the probability of them coughing or sneezing, etc... Most expert reports I have read have suggested that (all other things being equal) a safe distance in close to foolproof terms is somewhere between 8 and 21 metres. Obvious humidity and the strength and direction of any prevailing wind are going to influence transmission. Similarly, strange as it may seem, some experts reckon both heating and air conditioning systems can hold the virus in air for relatively long periods of time rendering any physical distancing element of social distancing irrelevant. I guess the best advice is to pay attention to all social distancing recommendations and, in the words of the king of misery himself, the liveline is open wash your hands.
