Why are you here.
« on: April 16, 2020, 01:28:16 pm »
I hate fukin complementing yis, but I have to ask this question. There are a lot of drivers on here, and I honestly believe some of you , people like John m, ratchatcher, lippy, belker u wha and loads more of you they are just the ones that spring to mind. I consider most of you extremely knowledable, very articulate, certainly able to hold your own in any company, I have worked with HEOS , assistant P Is etc etc in the civil service, and most of these highly paid people couldn't hold a candle to you, so I have to ask the question and I quite serious, WHY THE FUKK ARE YOU DRIVING TAXIS. ? you seem to me to be well above this low skilled job

Dalymount  A lot of us tried work for pay and in some cases like you say we had to listen to arseholes telling us what to do and thought fuck that .I ran a Property maintenance business broke me bollox for little or no cash making sure others got wages before I did .Last recession freed me up got into this can make enough to live on without killing myself but I can see the writing on the wall as Frankie said its not a full time gig now to much effort for little return Weekends and big events like matches or conserts you do ok but you now need to put the hours in .I have 10 years to go before I get a pension if I could get a poor job no work for poor wages I would probably take it .

I think your selling yourself, and the others I mentioned short John, seriously I'm not talking about manual labour, I seriously believe some of the guys on here would Excel in managerial positions, or negotions, etc etc. I look at people like Paul Reid whom I know quite well from his Eircom days . Paul excelled up through the ranks , and look at him now head of the HSE. I seriously believe a hell of a lot of posters on here have that same potential, but are CERTAINLY above this low level job.

I was in the civil service too for a few years. It was a cushy number at first,  got my mortgage when I was working there. But as the years rolled on I started to hate it, same people on the phone everyday with the same problems. I asked my HEO one day if I could sit on the other side of the room just so I could have a different wall to look at.  He said, theres people in here sitting at the same desk for 40 years, why should you be any different.  I said,  Simon I'm taking a career break for a year and did. I went back after the year to the same desk. I resigned 2 weeks later and bought a plate.

Horse I know what your saying. But the point I'm making is, when I see the way punters looks down their noses at us, particularly young revelers, they have no idea that the people they are sneering at are far superior to them academically . It's a shame that a highly intelligent man becomes reliant on this job for a living, when he has so much more ability. It was a joke on here for a long time about the erm representing our interest on DCC,. Well I actually believe he would have made a really good rep, and would have been a 1000000 times more effective if we had of took it seriously

That maybe true, oneandonly, but what I'm saying is you no doubt have/ had the academic ability to far exceed taxi driving

I'm incapable of taking orders from people, having a boss for 15 minutes at a time is about as much as I can handle, even then when they argue with my chosen route I boil a little inside

I'm with only on that one DM, work your own hours, get out of bed when and if you feel like it. You do need a certain amount of discipline though which on a quite night is hard. But I don't think I could go back to a 9 to 5 ever again. If I wasn't driving a taxi I think the next best thing would be to work from home doing something on a computer for some company.

Ah well that's fair enough, you have both given reasons why this job suits you, all in saying is the ability some on here have is probably a waste of great talant , but if it doesn't suit that's a pity

I've tried 9-5 a couple of times, it's not for me... once the novelty wears off. My only "career" regret is not joining the civil service when I left school. It was relatively easy to get in back then but the money was shite. Unfortunately, as a young fella I didn't attach any value to the job for life aspect. Having said that, the taxi has been good to me over the years and I like the freedom. Not sure that I woulda survived at it (in fact I'm pretty sure I wouldn't) if Mrs. Catcher didn't have a reasonable salary though.

If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.
