Screens glorious screens .

Thank you for contacting the NTA (National Transport Authority). We refer to your recent correspondence received on 12th May 2020.

There is no specific SPSV prohibition on having a clear partition between the driver and the passengers. It is important to ensure that the partition is of a shatterproof material so that in the event of any impact no danger would be presented to the driver or passengers (this would fall under general health and safety requirements in the workplace). Test certification to a known test standard should be sought to satisfy yourself that the material used has been proven to be shatterproof (the supplier should have access to this information).

In order to remain compliant with SPSV internal vehicle dimensions, sufficient legroom should remain (650mm minimum) measured longitudinally and horizontally from the front face of the backrest at uncompressed squab height to the rear face of the seat or surface immediately in front of it.

For vehicles fitted with a full dividing screen, partition or bulkhead between the driver and passenger compartment, an intercom and an induction loop is required. Signage should be placed in the passenger compartment to advise passengers of this.

Consideration should also be given to the placement of security screens in order to ensure that the effective operation of safety equipment such as side airbags are not hindered.

If you require any further information, please contact the Information Line on 0761 064000.

Kind regards,

National Transport Authority

They already looked at making it compulsory and rejected the idea .I was sure they would have had a policy document before they discussed fitting screens .I already knew the answer Dollymount before I asked the question I was just confirming it .They rejected compulsory screens as we all drive different types of vehicle so costs to drivers would be prohibitive .Read back over the Screen tread I told lads not to use Perspects as it is not shatterproof .The screen should be fit in a way not to injur both driver and passenger mine is designed to come loose on impact .

I would think not provided they comply with "general health and safety requirements in the workplace" as above.
