At the risk of being crucified again,,I wonder would they consider a buy back of licences to ladswho want to exit ?

No .If you cant make coin then do something else .

Bit of a sweeping statement there John....i would agree to that if the economy was as it was pre lockdown but we're now in the "new normal".....unfortunately like the bar/restaurant,gigs etc...we require those same people using taxis to make coin as you put it.

Ok lets follow your logic ,Did the Government buy back bookies licences when Paddy Power put them out of business .Will the Government buy back Pub licences when they go out of Business .There is no precident for governments EVER buying back licences .The nearest they ever got was buying Quota from fishermen .

Well they wipes out the Monterey value of them with the stroke of a pen,so maybe they should consider restoring it so that anyone wanting to get out will have a chance to get something back instead of any new recruit only being able to buy their licence from the NTA .thats unfair

Minister for Motoring (unelected)
Up the lane across from the Sugar Club
Dublin 2

Listen Driver
I gave a few drivers a bit of leaway on the vehicle age under the Covid 19 legislation I will not be extending this to all vehicles as it was a temporary amendment to existing rules under Covid Legislation .My buddy the Minister for not working (unelected ) gave out handfulls of coin under the same temporary legislation .Im sure you availed of the coin so stop fucking moaning about the age of your fucking car .

Respectfully Yours .

Duke od Leopardstown Minister (unelected )

See you are once again misunderstanding what you have and its value .Your 6 and change bought you a Saloon licence that was valid for ONE year then for an annual fee you could renew same .Your licence has NO value after the first year of issue just a provision to be renewed for an annual fee.The ending of transferability was just a device to promote WAVS and as there is a Supreme court judgement forbiding the Minister from not issuing licences this was a reasonable action by the state .Why do you think nobody has successfully sued the state for the loss of the value of their licence .Its simple the licence has no real monetary value .

Just aswell they gave out coin otherwise every taxi driver would be out there vying for non existent work while spreading the disease quicker than an STD,
As for the extension to licences, those licence holders are also in receipt of the PUP so by your logic should be in a better position financially as they should have had their finances in place already to change their cars but my income stream for saving will have been disrupted by 6 months while receiving just enough to live on....so i would argue that the S.I No 175 of 2020,while a good measure for those licence holders, didn't go far enough to support ALL licence holders,
Did you get a three month break on your repayments on your car John?

Whats this for a bit of logic---The State Licenses us so we pay them --they make us renew them and we pay State again --when we buy juice we pay a lump to State again and if we put in some effort and make a profit we pay a portion to State--
The current situation they allow the streets were we operate to be downsized--they subsidize the opposition Dublin Bus/Luas/and all Semi State operations so they can compete --then they tell our punters to cycle/walk and avoid Public Transport as we pose a danger to Public Health--bit of a CONTRADICTION eh ?

Big Dommos great Grandson says the lockdown has destroyed his business .Mc Donalds closing means he cant get a paper cup and the Lockdown means nobody on the streets to beg from his Dealer is not giving lay on so he had to go Cold Turkey .He dosent know when he will be back in business he cant live on 203 a week .Its all about perspective

The NTA are a shower of wasters....when the taxi regulator was our master, they had 20 mill in their bank account...that was until it was subsumed into the NTA....where it disappeared quicker than an investment with Lehman Brothers.....have no doubt that our licence fees subsidise Dub Bus etc....we were a cash cow to those arseholes in the NTA but they give very little back....extending licences would cost them nothing unless they get a brown envelope from meter, sticker installers....wouldn't fukin surprise me tbh!!

Approx 20,000 drivers x €250 = €5 million.  That probably wouldn't even pay the salaries of the NTA.

My apologies.  I was thinking the Suitability/LRA was €250 (driver licence) instead of €150/year.  20,000 drivers x €150 = €3 million.  Same general point applies.

Google says Dublin Bus's annual 'operating costs' were ~€300 million/yr (~€800k/day).  The NTA/DB is not waiting around for our money to hit their bank accounts  :P
