« on: June 16, 2020, 05:40:45 pm »
All 814 betting shops in Ireland have been told to close after a Government decision that they cannot reopen until the end of this month. In what has been described as a bolt from the blue, the betting shop sector was ordered to close its doors on Tuesday.

Not one comment .This is not about the Bookies .Its the fact the Government gave them the Go ahead to open yesterday but today told them to close .Would you give up 350 a week to go back only to be told sorry social distancing and all that .Will the Shops or Restaurants or Pubs when they open stay open ?

What makes you think they should have been allowed to open anyway?

It's a bookies. They have websites and apps.Only reason to go to the shop is to have a chat with a load of strangers spreading diseases..

I read the story too.  Found it odd that the Govt was worried about people rushing to the counter to get a final bet on and sharing the virus that way.

Having said that, I was out and about today for maybe a half hour.  It almost looked like a normal day with lots of cars around.  People at bus stops, even people on buses!  Very few wearing masks.  Many of the taxis I saw actually had passengers in them.  Might venture into town next week (no roofsign) and see if there's many people about (ranks etc)

Do they not give out free coffee as well?  Heard the bookies in the Omni used to give out free coffee and the occasional cake but had to stop because the drivers on the rank used to rob it all  oops

Are you sure the bookies didn't just misinterpret the regulations?

I wouldn't consider a bookies as retail even though they have a shop.More recreation if you can consider it that.Definitely non-essential.

One of the biggest facilitators of cash transactions would be the bookie shop. That's a lot of disease in one little place.

I'd say Dr Tony thinks all gamblers are mentally deficient in some way and are likely to ignore the hand washing and social distancing guidelines. They're addicts probably 20k in debt pretending the world is rosy.

Anyway how are the staff gonna keep the shops clean if they're hiding behind the security screen with the cash?

Should be closed permanently. Nothing but parasites.
If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.

Its only money .Most people havent seen more than 3 grand in cash in their lifetine havent held more than that ..I played in a Game of Poker about 30 years ago in Jacobs in Saggart there was over 400 thousand in real money on the table between Jim Mansfield and Rocco Caffola  I was holding about 6 thousand not all my money .When I seen the Game I realised in Poker the man with the money always wins so I gave up Playing .In the far far long ago myself and Dalymount were poker buddies .When it comes to Gambling  I Dont I havent lost money to the bookies in over twenty years .I had a bet Mogul to win the Derby @ 12/1 today before he ran in his prep race punters were looking for 8/1 so I laid it .Most bets I have I cash out before the event and take a small profit .I put up Shamie Heffernan @ 10/1 to be Irish Champion Jockey he is only one sixth of those odds now Ill cash out a bit take a profit and wait till September to see Do I back Colin Keane to beat him or take a chance but I will of already recovered my stakemoney .If money is your God then you are an Athiest .
