Dubliner Mr Gerry Hutch (38) yesterday won a court battle to become a taxi-driver after gardai said he was now a tax-compliant citizen.

The High Court was previously told that gardai suspected Mr Hutch was the leader of a criminal gang responsible for a £1.7 million heist in 1997 and a £3 million robbery in 1996. Mr Hutch - known as The Monk - had appealed a decision of the carriage office to refuse him a taxi licence.

Recently, he made a £2 million tax settlement with the Criminal Assets Bureau (CAB), which had assessed him on the basis of a number of properties he owned in Dublin city and other income.

He was ratted out to Anto for smoking in the Taxi and came on to the old forum to expose the Rat .... our old friend Harry.

That's almost true, TOO. It was one of the base managers that called me and said someone had reported me for smoking in the car. I said, so what... she laughed and that was that. When I found out who it was I made a point of parking beside Anthony (in his view) and blowing smoke from the window as we chatted. Anywaysanall, all water under the bridge at this stage. In fact, we got on reasonably well after that episode.

just checked, Harry's still on the road, I was sure he was doing some course or something way back when, thought he'd be long gone

Vinny was still running Xpert/National last time I spoke with him... funny enough, I did get think his usual enthusiasm for the business was somewhat lacking at that time but he never said anything to confirm that.

I don't think Harry would need to do a course to get out, he's an ex Civil Service professional! His dad drove a taxi in the good old days so that probably played a part in his career change.

You could be confusing him with a bloke who posted as Night Rider - real name escapes me at this stage - TOO? I recall he seemed like a clever enough bloke and he was studying something or other.

I was going to build the shed this month but the older not so young lad got his leg operation so that's half the workforce laid up for a couple of months... ah well, maybe next year!

I might start on the kitchen instead and get myself one of them new induction hobs...
