NTA - for the second fukking time, stop calling us!
« on: July 13, 2020, 05:41:12 pm »
No mention of masks but SPSV Information Line – Call Volumes (13 July 2020)

Quote
SPSV Information Line

The SPSV Information line continues to receive an unprecedented number of calls, resulting in long wait times. On Monday 6 July a total of 1,004 calls were placed which is the highest number recorded on one day.

Recent weeks have seen an influx of calls in the mornings when the SPSV Information Line opens. To avoid delays NTA recommends that industry members call in the afternoon where possible when wait times have been considerably shorter. Mondays are the busiest and have the longest wait times.

General Queries

Queries which are of a non-urgent nature can should be emailed to taxis@nationaltransport.ie where possible.

SPSV Licence Suspensions

We also advice that any queries in relation to suspensions, and where a licence holder wishes to return to work after suspension, are emailed to suspension@nationaltransport.ie

Where a suspension period is due to expire, including where the 3-month maximum period for suspension has been reached, NTA will contact the licence holder directly by email or telephone.

At the end of the 3-month suspension period, unless you have indicated that you are returning to operating your SPSV, restored full SPSV insurance cover and made an appointment to have the Tamper-Proof Discs reapplied, the licence will remain inactive. The licence must then be reactivated through the standard licensing process.

NCT Related Queries

The decision by RSA to extend NCT certificates by a 4 month period has resulted in a large volume of calls being received to the SPSV Information Line. This falls outside the remit of NTA – accordingly we cannot assist in this regard.

Information on ‘Voluntary NCT’ tests can be found by clicking here and should be able to address many queries. For all NCT related queries and bookings, contact the SPSV NCT Line on 01 413 5960.
Getting old is compulsory whilst growing up is voluntary.

So after the three month suspension period is up and if you're not returning to work you must restore your insurance and reactivate your licence or you'll be penalised by having to effectively relicence your vehicle if ye don't.

I'm in my fourth month of suspension.... maybe that's why they didn't ring last month?

However, the email they sent said "Your suspension is due to expire on 30/06/2020. To extend this date please email suspension@nationaltransport.ie quoting case reference CA*****" so I sent an email to extend it for another month on the 25th. As I heard nothing back I assume it's in order.

TBH, I didn't read the next line of their email i.e. "The period of suspension may continue for up to three months in total where appropriate SPSV insurance is not in place"... do you reckon I'll have to renew it in August?

Again that's a very poorly worded sentence, it should read (up to a maximum of 6 months), whereas (up to 3 month in total) would suggest you've already used up the allowance.

Indeed, 6 months would suit me far better. As an old boss of mine used to say... look before you leap!

I didn't read far enough to ascertain that I'd need another NCT. I might have restored it for a few days if I had. Anywaysanall, what's done is done... I guess I'll have to give them a ring to see where I'm at!

I doubt the stickers make any difference. If the licence is lapsed/inactive rather than suspended it'll need to be restored regardless. I presume I'll get a full year if I have to go through the renewal process so the €150 is no big deal. However, I reckon I should get my timing belt done before getting a NCT, that's probably about 4 ton... add the screen, NCT and LRA and I'm up to €650 to get back on the road. There should be a scheme to help sole traders and small businesses cover costs associated with relaunching our trades/businesses in these trying times.

Do you think NTA would do me a receipt for €500?

https://www.gov.ie/en/press-release/f9b1f-enterprise-support-grant-now-available-to-small-business-owners-and-school-meals-scheme-to-be-extended-into-summer/

Enterprise Support Grant for Small Businesses

The Minister stated that the Enterprise Support Grant will be made available to assist self-employed recipients who are exiting the Pandemic Unemployment Payment (PUP) scheme. This will provide owners with a once-off grant of up to €1,000 to re-start their business. A fund of €12m has been allocated for the extension of this grant.

The grant will be payable to self-employed micro enterprises which employ fewer than 10 people, have an annual turnover of less than €1 million and are not eligible for support from the COVID 19 Business Restart Grant or other similar business reopening grants.

Minister Doherty explained:

“We want to get Ireland back working again. In many cases, this means tackling the roadblocks and obstacles which stop an otherwise viable business from getting back up and running or simply giving them a helping hand. It is crucial that we approach this task in an innovative and flexible manner and this is what underpins today’s announcement.

“Some small self-employed businesses may face difficulties in transitioning from the Pandemic Unemployment Payment to a reliance on normal trading income, particularly in situations where normal trading conditions have not fully resumed. The Enterprise Support Grant operated by my Department is normally paid to people who are in receipt of jobseeker payments who close their claim to start their own business/enter self-employment as a micro-enterprise. It usually helps people leave unemployment to start a new business but I am going to apply the scheme to help existing small businesses – typically trades people or sole traders – return to work and to give that return a helpful boost.”

The extension of the grant to eligible recipients of the Pandemic Unemployment Payment will provide businesses with a once-off payment of up to €1,000. The Grant will be awarded to tax and PRSI compliant self-employed individuals who:

Have been in receipt of the Covid-19 Pandemic Unemployment Payment and have closed their claim;
Have reopened their business;
Employ fewer than 10 people;
Have an annual turnover of less than €1 million;
Are not eligible for other similar Covid business re-start grants from other Government Departments;
Are not liable for commercial rates;
Produce VAT receipts/invoices in respect of business re-start costs and expenses claimed.
It is envisaged that those who close their PUP claim will have a period of 4 weeks, from date of claim closure, within which to submit a claim. This is to allow time for claimants to incur the necessary expenditure, gather receipts and submit a claim.

Now that a decision has been taken to extend the scheme in this manner, the Department is developing the systems to put it into effect and will communicate how to access the grant in the coming weeks.
