Free now screen and the NCT/Suitability
« on: August 11, 2020, 07:50:38 am »
What's the final word, remove it or leave it for the tests?
Has anyone here gone through either test with screen fitted?

There was a conversation on here a week or so ago but can't remember the consensus.

Don't know about NCT.  I've mine in 2 weeks and I'll be taking it out unless I hear otherwise.  Better safe than sorry.

Re suitability.  The official advice is that it's too complicated for them to give advice.  But there is a minimum seating distance in the rear for pax.  During the first week when things reopened, testers were failing everything because they said they were told nothing by the NTA.  Now you need a letter from your insurance.  If you're with Axa, that's automatic.  Ultimately, I think it's down to the mood of the tester on the day.  I think I'll be leaving my screen off for that as well.

when I booked my sgs for next week the girl in the asked me did I have a screen. I said yes but I'm taking it out for the test. She said no need because I'm insured with axa and ata have already got informed by axa. Took my screen out for nct but while I was waiting I noticed 2 other taxis going through with the screens still fitted. Went over to both drivers when their cars came out and both passed.

Without a screen .I cannot understand why any driver would install something that is not mandatory, and potentially causing themselves
MORE problems

maybe just to keep themselves a little bit safer. Have you ever thought of that DM especially at your age and health condition.

You don't understand drivers not wanting to get Covid?

It's similar to using Free now or a dispatcher because you need to earn a living.

Took the screen out for the test, meant to ask what the story was but forgot in the excitement of passing ... sorry

I don't know weather those screens were permanently fitted to the floor and ceiling of the car. Apparently it's a fail if the screen is secured to the head rests. Has anyone on here passed with a free now screen? And apparently you are only insured if the screen meets nta requirements which the free now screens don't because its secured to the head rests.

If the nta has agreed with AXA that they will cover cars with screens installed, then I assume that the only other stipulation is that it meets the spec required.

I have a letter stating from  AXA saying exactly this:

We have been informed a perspex screen has been fitted to prevent the spread of Covid 19 and policy cover remains in place.

That'll do me for my FN screen

My next door neighbour is an NCT inspector(Drog)....he said they're not failing them as long as the seats can move...and they haven't failed any yet,
In the NTA guideline PDF,it doesn't say that the screen can't be attached to the headrest but that the movement of the headrest is not restricted,
When getting my daisies refitted last week the two lads from the NTA said they weren't a fail at suitability,i told them i had a screen but removed it in case there was a problem, they said that they had encountered a couple of homemade screens of very poor quality(only behind the driver) and quite dangerous looking.

there is not one dispatcher out there that's making it mandatory for drivers to get screens. They are making them available for a knock down price if you want one. If you don't want to spend €50 on a screen to give you a little bit of protection at your age, not to mention all your health problems, that's your problem. If you had a screen it would get you a bit of extra work to keep up with all the expenses that comes with running a taxi..

With regard to FN and possibly Lynk, you are definitely being excluded from some(maybe a lot of) work if you don't have a screen, they're just not saying it's not mandatory,
The public(passengers) perception is that screens offer some protection and is better than nothing.
