Quaint
« on: August 18, 2020, 12:00:05 pm »
I spent a few days on staycation around Westcork and Kerry over the weekend. Locals say they've never seen it as busy and they don't even need to get out the fiddles to sell gargle... watching a report on the TV claiming that Kerry is fucked because it's too reliant on tourists. Isn't it quaint how so many of them still insist on cash!
If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.

Should staycations now be discouraged by the officials given what's going on? I think so.

Probably, Jonno. The physical distancing aspect of social distancing seems difficult to implement with places so crowded and mask wearing is still quite sporadic. In fact, it seems to have become customary for shopkeepers, barmen, lounge staff, receptionists, housekeeping and waiting staff not to wear them.... most customers seem to be wearing them in shops but not outside and, obviously, not in bars/restaurants.
If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.

Yes I think if you take out the word "staycation", you might as well be telling people it's ok to drive all over the country . And it's really not.

I would interpret it as being OK to drive / holiday anywhere on the Island provided you don't stop or stay in any of the filthy locked down counties on your way.

I remember Danny Doyle doing a show in some hall there is in the mid to late seventies (could be a small possibility it may have been curracloe) . We were kids messing around outside, my parents were inside. I can clearly remember hearing whiskey on a Sunday. The sun, the sea. Great times.
