Cruiser Im going to blow my own trumper .On this forum years ago when planning was granted for data centers in far far down the country .I posted that nobody is telling you the truth .The deal the Irish government is offering is for the lifetime of the venture if you locate in Ireland we will offer you electric power at fourpence a killowat .So if we need to import power through the interconnector from GB our nearest neighbour at 10pence a kilowat plus Vat .It means Ireland will be subsidising Apple the worlds most valuable company to fuck us in return for 5000 construction jobs and about 80 full time jobs in reality we will pay about half a million per job in subsidised power .

I dont think a data centre when up and running would even employ 8 people.

I.agree. especially after watching that documentary about Bill Gates. He developed new nuclear power plant that is 99.999999% safe apparently! Completely different and new design to what's being used. He did it to help developing nations. Chinese had agreed to build.(and buy some) them at economical rates. Trump fucked that up with his trade sanctions. At the.same time I  wonder why the Germans are shutting down their nuclear power plants.

The reason the Germans are knocking nuclear on the head is every nuclear power station is a potential Chernoble if there is ever a war. Bomb the Nuclear sites will have the same effect a dropping a nuclear bomb .less dead people but the same effect of nuclear wasteland all around them .Ireland should go Nuclear as we will get the fallout from any Nuclear event in the UK without any benifits .But in this Green and pleasant land the Green agenda to save the world wont allow nuclear power or another Dam on the Shannon so its going to be Wind turbines that need to be subsidised to show a profit and solar power and some sort of wave machines out at sea and Big storage batteries built by Tesla .FFS they want us to go Electric to save the atmosphere but cannot generate enough power to prevent electricity overload after the All Ireland when everybody puts on the Kettle at the same time . We get 4 or 5 power outs a year some last for hours .Can you imagine the outrage if you cant go to work tomorrow because your new Electric Car is not charged because Paudie and Frank are on strike because the Kettle in the ESB canteen is broken .
