every single space on your taxi rank does be routinely occupied permanently by private cars?

Is it just the small towns that have this problem of arseholes parking in a taxi rank and getting away with it. cunts who will go off for 2 or 3 hours and leave their car in a rank. D reg cars a lot of the time or nothern Irish reg cars who wouldnt dream of doing it in their own cities, also ignorant locals who just think about themselves, sure who cares about a taxi man trying to earn a living.
Confession time. Several years ago I was very late for a night class in the city, couldn't get a space near the location on Kildare St, so I foolishly parked the plated up taxi at the back of the very unused rank outside what was then Anglo Irish Bank. Cameback 90 mins later, and the car was clamped and located on Fitzwilliam Square.
Trump has called for help, so I'm on a plane heading for The Strait of Hormuz, talk soon.

There is only three 24 hour spots, most times all three are taken with private cars, vans, lorries etc.

Off topic but relevant to another topic, how much would you be wanting to be doing Joe 'wash your hands' Duffy's job?
If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.

Grrrrr....Don't even get me started on this subject.

The attached picture is one I took. The busiest rank is bang smack outside the courthouse and when the courts are in session, you're lucky to get a place with all the fuzz cars and Paddy wagons (only required when the crème de la crème are in the dock). Complaints have been made to the authorities, but deaf ears and all that.

Mind you I was happy to see them one day when I pulled up alongside this young fella parked on the rank and sitting there as bold as brass.
I politely asked him to move so I could get in. He gave me a flat no and looked away, the cheeky bastard. Sez I: right, you stay there a wee minute me bucko. When the car in front moved up, I went on the rank and backed up bumper to bumper to prevent our friendly young prick from moving out. Then I called the shicalonies. The phone cop sez he'll have a car round in a couple of minutes. True to his word, the boys came along and in no uncertain terms shifted cunty along or "we'll arrest you and have the car towed away". You should have seen his face as he drove past, and me roaring and laughing, and flipping him the burd as a bonus. Ah the satisfaction.

One more quick anecdote. A taxi got a ticket from a warden cos the driver wasn't present. He went into the courthouse I already mentioned, for a piss cos it's the nearest. Expensive leak!

Doe Juffy has to have one of the handiest gigs going. He has a squad of gofers behind him doing all the donkey work. All he has to do then is sit at a mic for AN HOUR AND A QUARTER and let the ringer- inners do all the talking. Half a million he gets or something is it?
A few short years ago when the so- called big shots of RTE were aksed to take a pay cut, Doe Juffy refused and said he was worth every penny! And then Kenny took the hump and went to newstalk. Now Ryan Turbulence is the main man. Don't get me started about the arsehole that is known as Darcy.

I suppose they can do whatever they want. Who's going to tell them any different?

They are obliged to follow the same rules as everyone else, but who is policing them. I have heard of traffic wardens giving them tickets and clampers attempting to clamp unattended emergency vehicles but doesnt usually go down well with authorities or judges if is pushed.

Many moons ago when I was in the Defence Forces, I was on a cash escort from Dublin to Cork, it was a two day trip so at end of day one we had to pull over on a one way street in Cork city and wait for the securicor vehicle to enter a secure compound for the night. With five army and garda vehicles pulled over in one lane at rush hour it caused a bit of a traffic jam. Along comes a irate traffic warden who duly plants a ticket on all the army landrovers, he knew better than to give the garda car a ticket. The army sergeant in charge took issue but got no where with the jobsworth. The garda with us said don't mind the gobshite it will go no where. We were breaking the traffic laws but who was going to push it.

Yea, I used to work the Dundrum rank in Dublin. The local garda were happy to ticket drivers who parked on the rank.
They were also equally happy to ticket taxi drivers who ranked on the rank extension which was a rank at night and loading bay during the day.
