FN not signing up any new drivers
« on: October 27, 2020, 01:57:07 pm »
The FN manager gave an interview to The Irish Times about wearing masks in taxis.  That's covered in another thread but later on in the interview, he says;

Quote
Like many sectors, Mr Carson said the taxi industry had experienced great changes due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Business is down about 50 per cent year on year, while only about half of its 14,000 drivers have resumed work, but Mr Carson expects these figures to drop further due to Level 5 restrictions.

He said drivers are in a “really difficult position”, but Free Now, as a company, is “in a strong financial position” because of its investors BMW and Daimler.

The company has stopped accepting new sign-ups in order to “ sustain the livelihoods of the drivers who have always worked with us”, he added.

One charitable view is that he's not signing up new drivers 'cause he cares about us...  Another view might be that there's no point in signing up new drivers if business is down 50% and dropping.  And why refuse a good PR stunt!

He was on Pat Kenny also--he said comparing last week with 12 months ago --numbers were down 70%--yet their commission for the period was up 25% from 12 to 15%--he didn't mention this !

...or that he or FN were busy massaging Anne's feet under the TAC table so they could get their 3% increase in before the fare increase so as not to look like they weren't gouging licence holders on the back of our fare increase....which they fukin were anyway.....and i'd say that fare increase is gone now anyway....maybe when the clocks do eventually stop springing forward and falling back.

To be fair, they charge 24% on the mainland and Mr. Fox did say he needs to align our commission with that charged on the mainland when questioned on the last increase.

When I started in early 90s the freight averaged at about 5% of turnover and it was about 80% cash and 20% accounts--nirvana but didn't know it !

So what, Punter. Lads don't mind paying up to €390/week commission because the apps is gonna put all them mean and nasty Irish dispatch firms with their €90/week fixed freight out of business anall, so they are, anall...

What do we want?

More drivers working...

Why do we want it?

Because there's no work, anall...

Drivers' unions. It was the focus of the strike that led to that mehaul cunt slashing our puppy dole. Their primary demand was subsides to get drivers back working because there's no work. You couldn't make it up.
