More Bolloxology Occi 4 of the England 1968 team have or had dementia so its panic stations .How many of the pensioners that played for other teams in that world cup have dementia .Most of that England team would be showered with Gargle everywhere the go probably Gargle caused their dementia not heading a football .

Tony Cascarino has opened up about his fears of developing a brain disease such as dementia or Alzheimer's in the future.

The Italia 90 hero reckons that he has a high risk of developing dementia due to his family history as well as the impact of heading the ball during his famous career.


The former Republic of Ireland star, 58, is concerned after noticing small trends in his recent years that suggest he could develop the disease.

"My dad has got dementia and it's on his side of the family, his brother had it and his sister had it. My mum's side - her sister's had dementia," Cascarino said on Claire Byrne Live.


"I've headed the ball an awful lot and I do know the numbers are pretty horrific in regards to footballers playing (are) three and a half times more likely to get dementia.

"Plus I've had brain surgery, which can start off the process of the slow death of cells in the brain".

He continued: "Do I feel like when I was the age of 45? The answer is absolutely not.

"I do feel myself changing and I feel my brain, I'm finding it way more difficult to take memories - especially short term - to hold them and I'm making mistakes.

"It does make the alarm bells in my head (go off), and I think, 'Is there something more sinister going on?'.

"I do have my concerns".

Describing the devastating impact the disease can have on families, Cascarino admitted that he would not be adverse to assessing his options if he did develop dementia.

And he claimed he has had conversations with family members around the option of euthanasia if he develops the disease.

"I've chatted to my wife, I've had chats with family members and said, 'You know what, if that's me I don't want to be around.

"I don't want to be around being that person that needs caring, and I think many people think like that".

Cascarino also touched on the late Jack Charlton, revealing that he and his fellow Ireland players noticed signs that indicated the legendary Irish manager could develop the disease.



Charlton died in July after suffering from lymphoma and dementia in his latter years.

"It was quite strange, Jack (would have been) the same age as I am now - in his mid-50's and getting close to 60.

"We noticed many things along the way, certainly with his confusion, sometimes misplacing words and confusion over names as he'd get many names wrong including myself.

"He called me the 'ice cream man' jokingly, but he always clicked his fingers to say to me, 'Cas..'".
