It was inevitable really since you're supposed to wear a mask walking down crowded streets now.

I'd also imagine 'reasonable' (efforts/steps) means nothing in law so it would be almost impossible to prosecute anybody unless they basically admitted it.  The shop keepers and bus drivers are not playing enforcer with these laws so no reason to expect us to do it either.

And of course don't forget the NTA's message from 29 June 2020 --> Face coverings to become compulsory

On the Day your in Court to give evidence

If a passenger is up before the wig,the evidence of the Garda will be enough....i certainly wouldn't be attending any court cases.

I thought you were from Finglas Nodger or Frankie the Blades little sister will knock around to ask you to appear for the defense .Its called the Burning Car Defense .You would swear on the Book you couldnt recognise Nodger or Frankie the Blade as if it was them in your motor they was unrecognisable with their masks on .

Can ya imagine 27 minutes to three in the Morning and Garda Fiacra O Buchallig calls you in to a line up Six lads in tracksuits wearing masks and he asks can you recognise the lads that robbed you earlier of your meger nights takings .We might be safe from the Flu but masked muggers just got a Go to work card .

So The Kardashians from the Flats or Una Brophy and Ann Murphy get their make up done by Faces by Beatrice who has a facebook Page and calls around to your Gaff .The two of them are in the car drinking a sneaky naggin going to a Gaff Party in Newcastle Nice Fare and they sneak their masks off as they dont want to mess up the Mush .Garda Ursula Kincaid stops you near Peamount and the Girls are not wearing masks Garda reads them the Riot act they say the driver said it was Ok .Now where do you stand .And thats a serious legal question .I can only find the Fines for Drivers or Passengers not wearing Facecoverings but are there any for non enforcement or conspiring with others to commit a criminal offence ie non wearing of facemasks .

A passenger has a reasonable excuse to not wear a mask if they have a medical condition.  A taxi driver has to make a reasonable effort to make the passenger wear a mask.

Taxi driver:  Please wear a mask.
Passenger:  I have asthma/COPD.
Taxi driver:  OK, I'll need to confirm your story with this FN-supplied lie detector machine...

I don't think the Guards/Judges will expect us to do step 3?

If the driver was wearing a mask, I'd say it was the girls' problem?  If driver is not wearing a mask, both could be in trouble?

It won't be enforced until someone starts acting the bollix.  Or maybe for the first day for the cameras/newspapers.

This rule came in yesterday and there was no mention of it on any newspaper/tv/radio that I could see/read.  Probably just someone in NTA cleaning out their email and noticed their June 29th publication about masks and PSVs...

One question not answered is can we officially charge extra if we have to give the pax mask(s)?  Say €2 a mask?

The NTA would prob have a consultation and decide in May 2021 that we could charge for masks but we'd have to update our meters in Aug 2021 for €150 a pop  ::fds
