Residents in North Dublin were warned to keep an eye out for young kids on electric scooters with "claim on the brain" looking to get themselves into accidents.
And the whole community came out of the woodwork with their complaints regarding children on the scooters across different parts of Finglas.
A post on the Finglas Talks Facebook group started it all when a man claimed two kids were looking to be hit off their scooters by passing cars in order to cash in on some insurance payouts.
The post read: “Last night whilst walking my dog about 8 o’clock on Mellowes Road, two lads on electric scooters [were] in the middle of the road with a car behind them.
“One shouts at the other ‘don’t move let the car hit you, you will only get a claim if it hits you’.
“I’ve seen it all over the place! I’ve had them fly out in front of me a few times!
“If your child has claim on the brain you'd wanna have a word with them!
“People have enough to deal with with scramblers booting around and keeping the area in the mud without little toerag kids trying to get claims off normal working people!”
The post got the locals riled up as they reacted to an issue that has been plaguing them for ages
One respondent noticed similar goings on in another part of Finglas, and she was not happy
She said: “Same thing walking through the village yesterday four little scumbags on electric bikes doing turns in front of a moving car.
"Any parent who bought these or the scooters need a good slap.”
Another claimed her daughter was close to serious injury because of them
She said: “My daughter was nearly knocked over by one on the footpath walking to work one day.
"They are a bloody hazard.”
While a third sympathised with some of the good kids that own the scooters, but may not be aware of how dangerous they actually are.
She said: “Lots of them in the estate I live in.
"The kids are grand to be honest but they don't realise how dangerous they are especially with the dark evenings.
"An accident waiting to happen.”
