I had a middle class upbringing, erm... so I can't claim to remember sharing baths or going hungry but we did have a shop in Dorset St in the 80s so I have some experience of the deprivation that prevailed in the inner city and how it was fuelled by the Heroin trade and jealously protected and preserved by certain 'republican' politicians.
The exchequer is already paying for, and benefitting from, vast improvements in efficiency at airports... and, more importantly, the country is starting to see the benefits as, for example, it becomes increasingly more difficult to import cocaine. We'll always have the middle classes who'll be able to afford holidays with realistic taxation so, post COVID, that will bring money into the equation. Even €500 per person per flight would pay for a lot of civil servants.
