A teenager has died and another has been seriously injured following an incident with a delivery driver in Dublin this evening.

Emergency services are currently at the scene on the East Road, East Wall, in the north-inner city after receiving reports of an assault.

Gardai were alerted at around 9.20pm and discovered two males, aged in their teens, with serious injuries.

The two casualties, one of whom is just 16, were transferred to the nearby Mater Hospital, with one of them said to be in a critical condition.

He was later pronounced dead.

Gardaí said a third male has presented to the Mater Hospital to be treated for injuries.

Gardaí said they are investigating all the circumstances of the “fatal assault and associated incidents”.

It is understood that at this stage gardaí are investigating if the youths were involved in a confrontation with a delivery driver prior to the alleged assault.

Garda crime scene investigators are currently at the scene and are carrying out examinations.

Investigators are appealing for anyone with information, or who may have witnessed the incident, to contact Store Street Garda Station.

Gardaí appealed for anyone who was in the East Road, East Wall area between 9:00pm and 9:40pm and may have any information or footage (including dash cam), to contact Store Street Garda Station on 01 666 8000, the Garda Confidential Phone Number 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.

That Island key apartment block is home to some right pieces of dirt. There was a video of an attack there not so long ago.

DIFFERENT TAKE SAME INCIDENT ..Gardaí have begun a murder investigation following the stabbing of teenager in Dublin.

A 16-year-old boy sustained fatal injuries, and two other teenagers were injured, following a row in East Wall.

Gardaí were called to an incident at 9:20pm on East Road after a passer-by reported a violent attack on the street.

A row appears to have broken out between a group of teenage boys and girls and another group which may have included some adults.

During the row a 16-year-old boy was stabbed.

He was treated by paramedics at the scene but his injuries were fatal and he was later pronounced dead at the Mater Hospital.

Two other teenage boys were also injured during the incident, one of them seriously.

Both are being treated in hospital.

The scene on East Road has been preserved and Gardai in Store Street have begun a murder inquiry.

Detectives are still trying to establish precisely what happened and why and are working to identify all those who were at the scene.

They have appealed for witnesses or anyone with information to contact them at Store Street Garda Station.

Gardaí investigating the fatal stabbing of a 16-year-old boy in Dublin last night say they are following a definite line of inquiry.

Josh Dunne, a talented soccer player, was stabbed during a row between two groups following the alleged theft of a bicycle in East Wall last night.

Two others, another 16-year old boy and a man in his 20s, were also seriously injured in the incident. They are being treated in the Mater Hospital.

The scene remains sealed-off for a forensic examination as gardaí use a drone to survey the area.

The series of events that led to the killing of the boy appears to have begun when a bike was allegedly stolen by a man in his 20s and a number of food delivery cyclists intervened.

A group of teenagers who had come from the city centre to East Wall at around 9.20pm then appear to have got involved in that dispute, which resulted in the two 16-year-old boys being stabbed.

Both teenagers were treated at the scene, but one sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead later at the Mater Hospital.

The other child was stabbed in the chest and is in a serious but stable condition in hospital.

A 23-year-old man who was involved in the initial incident also subsequently presented himself at the Mater Hospital and is still being treated there for serious injuries.

Josh Dunne who lived in Ballymun was a talented underage footballer who played with local clubs, had a trial for a Scottish Premier League club and interest from a number of English professional clubs.

Bohemian Football Club said it was devastated to learn of the death of a talented and well-liked young footballer.

"We extend our deepest condolences to those former team-mates and coaches, and to all his family, friends and schoolmates."

In a statement, it said: "This is an extremely difficult time for all of Josh's team-mates. The loss of someone so young in such circumstances will be hard for them to comprehend.

"Bohemian Football Club encourages them, or their parents on their behalf, to come forward and seek help if they are struggling. We will do all we can to support our players, past or present."

Gardaí at Store Street are conducting a murder investigation.

They have spoken to several teenagers and adults who were at the scene and say they are following a definite line of inquiry.

A Dublin teenager who lost his life in a tragic fight has been remembered as “a hero” by friends.

Josh Dunne, 16, was stabbed on Tuesday night on East Road in East Wall and sadly died from his injuries.

It is believed that brave Josh was trying to defend a delivery driver who was being attacked by other youngsters on the road.

A friend who was leaving flowers at the crime scene told Dublin Live: “Josh was the nicest lad you could ever meet.

“He was such a caring fella, loved football and was always great craic.

“I just can’t believe he’s been taken away from us, it doesn’t seem real.

“He’s a hero for what he did.”

Gardai have launched a murder investigation into the stabbing and are asking witnesses of the incident or anyone in the area at the time to come forward.

Josh played for Bohemians underage programme with St Kevin’s Boys and was a skillful footballer who had a natural gift for the game.

A coach from St Kevin’s said: “Can’t believe Josh is gone, such a fantastic kid and it would be Josh to go and help somebody been attacked he was a brave lion.

“Honest, funny, talented lad that had his principles and was adored by his coaches, teammates, parents on the team and around the club.”

And his old club Tolka Rovers paid a touching tribute to the teenager.

They said: “We are deeply saddened to hear the tragic news of Josh Dunne.

“It was a privilege to have him play for Tolka Rovers FC and to watch him play football under the guidance of Coco, Kev and James.

“Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this very sad time.”

Tributes for the popular young lad poured in on social media today, with friends and family saying he had “a heart of gold”.

A family member said: “My family is shattered into pieces. R.I.P Josh, such a talented footballer. May you get the best bed in heaven. Way too young, fly high.”

Another close friend added: “Rest in paradise, Joshy. Absolutely heartbroken, you had a bright future ahead of you. One of the most genuine people I’ve talked to. A heart of gold, rest easy.”

A devastated pal also paid tribute to the victim describing Josh as “like a brother”.

She said: “Heart is shattered into a million pieces, another beautiful life taken too soon. Like a little brother to us, such a funny soul gone just like that.”

Josh was one of two teens initially taken to hospital after a row broke out between a group of teen boys and girls along with some adults, one of whom believed to be a delivery driver.

A short time later, a third male presented at the Mater Hospital with serious injuries.

East Road was sealed off by Gardai overnight with traffic diversions in place to keep the public away from the scene.

Councillor Anthony Flynn was one of the first people on the scene and told Dublin Live that the community are in great shock at the loss of a talented young footballer.

He said: “With a heavy heart I pass my condolences onto the family of the deceased. I was on scene last night. The community as a whole are in shock at such an incident.

“I want to commend members of Dublin Fire Brigade and ambulance for their quick response and members of Gardai.

“Gardai must be given the room to investigate the incident.”

Sinn Fein Dublin City Councillor Janice Boylan said: "The East Wall community is devastated and shocked at last night's stabbing incident which left one young man fatally wounded.

"My heartfelt sympathy goes to the family of the young man who lost his life and I hope those who sustained injuries make a full and speedy recovery.

"East Wall was one of two serious stabbing incidents last night in Dublin city. This is a very worrying and concerning development.

"I am shocked and upset at the recent rise in knife crime across the city. As a parent of teenagers and a City Councillor the increase in knife crime deeply concerns me and I know the community feels the same way too.

"I have written to the Garda Commissioner Drew Harris this morning urging him to make all resources available to the Gardaí leading the investigation. I urge anyone with information about either incident to contact the Garda in confidence."

A Garda statement reads: “Gardaí are currently investigating all the circumstances of a fatal assault and associated incidents which occurred this evening on East Road, East Wall, Dublin 3, 26th January 2020.

“At approximately 09:20pm Gardaí received a report of a public order incident occurring on East Road, East Wall.

“Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene and two juvenile males were taken to the Mater Hospital to be treated for serious injuries.

“One of the juvenile males has subsequently been pronounced dead in the Mater Hospital.

“A third male has since presented to the Mater Hospital to be treated for injuries.

“Gardaí are appealing for anyone who was in the East Road, East Wall area between 9:00pm and 9:40pm and may have any information or footage (including dash cam), to contact Store Street Garda Station on 01 666 8000, the Garda Confidential Phone Number 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.”

A GoFund Me has also been set up to help with funeral costs for the Dunne family.

There is an urgent need to bring back youth clubs, not just sports clubs. Teen violence is getting out of hand.
Trump has called for help, so I'm on a plane heading for The Strait of Hormuz, talk soon.

It's hard to envisage any significant reopening while hospitals are in a state of crisis... and it's equally hard to envisage any significant improvement in that regard without reversing An Taoiseach's puppy dole cuts.
