Band sorry Bank on the Run

Gardaí have launched increased patrols in the north inner city of Dublin following tensions between food delivery workers and local young people.

There are also plans to increase community outreach and youth diversion work in the area in the hope of averting future violence, sources said.

Gardaí said they are aware of increased animosity between Deliveroo workers and young people following several violent incidents in recent months.

“Our main response right now is through community relations. We want to deal with it in that way rather than dealing with another violent aftermath,” a source said.

Violent incidents
There have been several violent incidents in the northeast inner city over the last 12 months, some of which began as robberies of Deliveroo staff, who deliver takeaways from fast-food restaurants across the city, usually on bicycles.

On Friday, well over a hundred young people gathered on bicycles and cycled through the city centre. Some of the youths said they wanted to find and confront delivery drivers over a recent violent incident.

The convoy was escorted by cars from the Garda traffic unit and the Store Street public order unit was on standby. However, no major incidents were reported.

Gardaí say they have dedicated officers who are monitoring the situation in an attempt to prevent any outbreaks of violence.

Refusing to deliver
Other workers have started refusing to deliver to certain parts of Dublin 8 and its outlying areas. Some Deliveroo cyclists have also started using unbranded clothing and food bags to avoid attention.

On January 22nd, Dublin Deliveroo drivers staged an unofficial strike over pay and working conditions. The organisers highlighted the “lack of security” and the level of violence riders experience and said three couriers had been attacked in the previous week alone.

They also said their rates of pay had been “drastically reduced” which meant they now had to spend longer on the streets and “pedal more, to earn less”.

William Santos, a Deliveroo cyclist from Brazil, told The Irish Times on Monday that he and his colleagues are “frightened every night.”

“We are afraid because we don’t know what will happen to us when we deliver to a place.”

Deliveroo launched in Ireland in 2015, and currently works with more than 1,000 riders and over 1,800 restaurants across Dublin, Cork, Limerick and Galway. The riders as classified as self-employed and are paid per delivery.

Deliveroo’s Irish division recorded a 40 per cent rise in turnover last year as sales rose from €9.3 million to €13.8 million.

THESE LADS DONT GET PAID CASH ON DELIVERY THE FOOD IS PAID FOR WHEN IT IS ORDERED .Their problem is most dont have bank accounts in Ireland so carry every penny they own in their wallets .I have seen some taxi drivers carry enough cash to buy a Horse at the Ballinaslo Fair .Somebody hands them a Bullseye and they open the wallet to make change and flash the cash .I never have more than 40 notes in me top pocket just enough to give change for a 50.Junkies are desperate for cash no shoplifting as the shops are shut no housebreaking as the gaffs are ocupied .BE CAREFUL you could be seen as a mobile cash machine .

Why have they no bank accounts....how are their earnings being paid to them when most if not all deliveries are paid by card when ordered?

A lot of them are Dubious they travel to Portugal on Brazilian Passports as Brazil was a Portugest Colony they then get Portugese ID cards that allow them travel through Europe without a Passport .Irish Banks wont accept those ID cards to open an account .A lot of those lads are self employed through an agency who collect their wages for them from their employers in their bank account take a commission then hand on the Cash .

Agency worker? usually means the agent supply's the worker collects the coin from the employer then divies it out .Only one tax number required .Employer just asks the Agent to make sure all staff are legally allowed work in this country a valid EU member state ID will do .Nobody ever asks if the Employee is actually REGISTERED to work just legally allowed .Read some of the Indeed or Irish jobs adds for the wording .In fact the taxi thingey  use to only ask that you can work legally in Ireland not that you are tax and PRSI registered that was  somebody elses gig until it was pointed out to Alan Kelly over tea and Biscuits then the rule was changed .

Coming over here doing the jobs the skobies parents won't do.

The skobies are afraid their free social welfare entitlements will be affected if they have to work for a living.

Seems to me that them deliveroo had enough an after repeatedly bein robbed an harassed by these little bastards
Going around on bikes and the total lack of on the beat policing , the total absence of deterrent from the judiciary and police ....they going around doin wat they like an them deliveroo had enough and are compelled to carry a knief for ther own safety because they are bein robbed and harassed at knief point and the food and bikes and takings are violently being taken........
You cant blame them for carrying a knief  that one bit .....
At least we can lock our door an fit a screen ( put a sheet of steel or aluminium in the back of yur seat )
What where them kids from ballymun doing there? And why did they get involved and why where they stabbed ?

Occi take this with a pinch of salt a jurno I know said .Local skum tried to rob bike .Reinforcenents arrived and row broke out .One of the people in the Row was coloured and that was why the kid got involved he thought it was a racist attack .Now that could be Journalistic license .I doubt any paper would write that as it could lead to racial attacks .Will all come out in court .

Seems unlikely that they're paid cash, erm. I think you're assuming a 1960s Paddy in London type existence without justification.

A lot of these "gangs" are probably children of men dependent on puppy dole to pay fixed business costs, mortgages, household bills, etc... The men simply don't have the money to feed their kids since An Taoiseach cut their puppy dole so the kids have to hunt their own food. The sooner these Brazilians are replaced by drones the better.
