Good point, Punter. One did offer to facilitate me with such an arrangement FOC back in 2014 when NTA forced me to renew my then lapsed licence, unsolicited I might add!
If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.

Good idea Panel but I'd probably get me own heap back on the road for less than 500. I can just pay the insurance deposit then cancel it if it's no longer needed.

I do plan to get back on the road but can't get motivated until things reopen properly.

There are some lads i know who their motors are too old to renew the plate and are contemplating spending €3,500 on a 8 year old Renault to keep the plate active, surely a quiet word in a MPOs ear would be cheaper.

You could just rent the plate to an MPO... I know a couple of lads doing that, not sure how much (a few years back a grand a year was about the rate) you'd get, if anything... but it'd keep the plate alive... assuming they have the capacity, I'm sure the bigger players will have plenty of their own plates to keep alive. As Panel says, worth asking if it'd work for you.

Yes Hal Aug 2020, so it needs to be revived by August 21.Chances are I'll reactivate the plate ,spend a bit on an unnecessary NCT then the NTA will lossen up the rules for the pandemic.

I'd need to start getting the ball rolling around June just in case the NCT becomes a problem.
Do you need to pay the 500 to re ignite the ting ?

That's expensive enough Panel. The next big spend for me will be on a replacent vehicle, but not just yet.I'd be sick if I spent on a newer motor and the country was still locked down.

FFS Octy... you've been told at least 3,472 times that there's currently no fees applicable to licence renewal.

I think it's free to reativate but getting the car road worthy might cost a little.Maybe new stickers and the meter time is way way off.Insurance will need to be paid too.

Exactly my point to hop in bed with a mpo to renew your plate for the nominal amount of €500 to the mpo, it’s cheaper than buying a car on hp/finance for €500pm with no work to pay for it.

Hopefully in a years time we’ve a better idea of what post COVID life Is like and can make investments into the taxi game accordingly.
