Passed by around 11:37, only a couple of young ladies giving out about this bleedin' country to the couple of remaining Gardai but I'm told there was fierce craic before that... with the usual not entirely factually accurate chants of "we ran the black and tans, we'll run you" and a couple of locals leading a chorus of the "girls" behind the wire!

If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.

Gardaí arrest seven people following reopening of hair salon in Balbriggan

The arrests were made earlier today.

Updated 2 hours ago

GARDAÍ HAVE ARRESTED seven people after a hair salon in Balbriggan opened up in defiance of Covid lockdown rules.

C and N Beauty Rooms opened up to the public yesterday but was shut down a short while later by officers. Its owner said she opened her premises as “she needs to put food on the table”.
She had been warned that she could be arrested if she reopened her doors again today.

There was a large garda presence outside the salon this morning as activists turned out to support the salon’s owner.

Videos shared on social media showed several garda patrol cars as well as a public order van outside the salon.

Gardaí said a total of seven people were arrested today and one woman was charged.

A spokesman said: “Gardaí arrested a woman, aged in her 40s, in Balbriggan this morning for breaches of the Health Act 1947 as amended. She has since been charged and is due to appear before Swords District Court later this afternoon.

“Gardaí are also investigating a demonstration that was held in Balbriggan this morning.  Seven persons were arrested in relation to this demonstration and associated breaches of the Health Act (four men and three women). Six of these arrests were dealt with by way of Fixed Penalty Notice.

“The other person arrested, a man aged in his 50s, has been charged in relation to this incident. He is due to appear before the Swords District court later this afternoon.”

There was loads of newspaper men about town and not so much as a shebeen open to serve them. It's good to see folk standing up for themselves, I guess.

The lady who operates the salon obviously got plenty of media attention, I hope she slammed An Taoiseachs puppy dole cuts and pointed out how Mehaul Martin is responsible for the deaths of hundreds of pensioners, the starvation of thousands of Children and at least one death related to attacks on Deliveroo drivers up above in Dublin, the modern day equivalent of stealing Trevelyan's corn, if you will!

On the other hand, why doesnt she just pocket what's left of the puppy dole and do hairdressing house calls... like a lot, if not most, of her comrades?

I initially thought she's not doing herself any favours with the blue rinse brigade which one would imagine accounts for a significant portion of her client base... but I guess there's no such thing as bad publicity. I wonder if she'll open again tomorrow, rumour suggests she's fully booked for the next 3 weeks... and they've a gofundme page to cover the fines now!

Women's wing of Mountjoy Gaol might be a good starting point... what time does the firing squad clock in these days?
