Gardai rushed to the aid of shop staff after an "intoxicated" man entered a supermarket without a face mask.

The incident happened in the Bailieborough in Co Cavan on Saturday.

Officers said the man entered the store without a face covering, and was more than 5km from home.

They added that he was "aggressive" towards shop staff as he attempted to purchase alcohol, and was arrested.

He was brought to the local garda station and given two fines, for failing to wear a face covering and for travelling more than 5km from home for non-essential reasons.

A spokesman for Cavan/Monaghan Gardai said this afternoon: "Yesterday evening the Gardai in Bailieboro attended a local supermarket and encountered an intoxicated male attempting to purchase alcohol.

"This male was not wearing a face covering and was aggressive towards shop staff.

"He was subsequently arrested under the Public Order Act and taken to Bailieboro Garda Station.

"He was also issued two Fixed Payment Notices - for non wearing of a face covering and for travelling outside 5km for non essential purposes.

"We must remember that supermarket staff are also on the frontline during the pandemic are providing everyone with an essential service."
If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.

Do you remember when you had to remove your crash helmet when you delivered an envelope or sandwiches into an office .If you walked into a bank wearing a mask everybody hit the deck .

Perhaps... although somewhat belated based on published life expectancy tables. Anywaysanall, I took my car for it's weekly spin this morning... glanced down and noticed I was doing almost 160 kilos per hour on the motorway. What followed is truly disturbing. Instead of slowing down to comply with road traffic regulation I, for some unknown and completely uncharacteristic reason, decided to see how readily the motor could hit 200 kilos per hour... which it did and a bit more to compensate for permitted under-display of speedometers... before I got a grip of myself and continued my journey in full compliance with said regulation.

If you died in a Skoda  your family would never live it down. They'd have to say "Poor man was only putting up a satellite dish fell off the roof". 8)

Indeed. On today's behaviour I'd only have myself to blame anyway... but then I guess I wouldn't be around to blame myself. In any event, I don't intend to repeat said behaviour. I'm generally a stickler for the speed limit and I think there must have been a vexatious element to my reaction to realising I was, initially unintentionally, driving too fast.
