What kind of drivers do you hate the most?
« on: March 31, 2021, 01:12:04 pm »
For me its assholes who park in disabled spaces who aren't disabled.

I was just dropping someone off there and see there was a car in a disabled space, no disabled pass on the dash. so I double parked along side it. then this middle aged woman gets in, I took my time getting the money then taking the buggy out of the boot, yer one gives me a look as if to say "move". I gave her one back as if to say "you can wait now seeing as you are in a disabled space". she was fuming, started blowing the horn lol. its the little victories.  lol

Err, you're not allowed to stop or drop off in a disabled space either?

I am, I drive a WAT. I wouldn't park in one unless i'm dealing with a passenger in a wheelchair.

I don't dislike those drivers because they are taking my space, I just dislike them because they are selfish assholes who don't car about disabled people, as long as they are ok that's all that matters to them.

Do you have a disability pass/sticker?
If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.

No. I tried to get one but they will only give them to disabled people, which is  stupid in my opinion. As far as I am aware though a WAT can park in a disabled space while dealing with a wheelchair passenger.

Story is from 2009 but maybe things have changed since then?

Taxi parked in disabled bay when picking up a wheelchair passenger

Quote
A MITCHELSTOWN taxi-driver has been prosecuted for parking his car in a disabled bay after he was called to pick up a passenger in a wheelchair.  John Carey, with an address at Baldwin Street, Mitchelstown, was fined €300 by Judge Michael Pattwell following his conviction at a sitting of Mitchelstown District Court.  Garda Peter McLoughlin told the court that he observed Carey's car parked in the disabled bay on Lower Cork Street on January 19 last.  Carey's solicitor, Karen Kearney, asked Garda McLoughlin if he was aware at the time that her client was a taxi driver.  "He was called to pick up a disabled person at a nearby bank and parked the car in the disabled bay in order to assist the person back to his car," said Ms Kearney.

In evidence, Carey pointed out that his vehicle was wheelchair accessible and that he was only parked in the disabled bay for a short length of time.  "I had no other alternative but to park there," he told the court.  Asked by judge Pattwell if he had a permit to legally park in a disabled space, Carey answered 'no'.  "Therefore you have no right to park in that space. There is no exception to this law for a taxi," said the judge.

When I rang the authority who give them disabled passes, asking about getting one, they told me I had to use the disabled pass of the client, now some of the people I drive are in nursing homes with dementia, id say it wouldn't be easy trying to find their disabled pass, if they even have one. WAT drivers should have a pass given to them when they get their licence.

That is crazy that the taxi driver got penalized in that situation, I fully expected him to be driving a saloon or something. Guards where I live dont give a $hit if people parked in a disabled spot all day. in a way I would like to work an area where parking laws are enforced.
if I ever give up driving a taxi I would love a job as a traffic warden, I would do that job for free to be honest. I would love giving tickets to people who park in disabled spaces and taxi ranks.

To be fair, there's nothing in the quoted piece to suggest the driver was hired by a disabled individual at the time. In practice, I doubt a Garda/Traffic Warden would issue proceedings if that were the case... unless the driver was an obnoxious prick and/or an immigrant. Certainly one to discuss with the local Station Sargent or Inspector before going to court, I guess.

Was there any proof that he was called by a wheelchair user? Is the driver an immigrant?

who knows. Not sure why it matters if he was an immigrant or not.
