What did u work at before john

Metal Fabricator specialising in Storage Floors ,racking and Conveyors .Had a small property maintenance business went bust when my partner and his hen split up .Cant do any work like that anymore you need certs and tickets for every job now .

I was asked a few years ago would I put up two brackets to hold a TV in a canteen so the staff could watch the Rugby World Cup on their break .The Company could not pay for the fitting as it was not for the benifit of the plant .I refused at first but the fella that rang was a mate !.I arrived @9.20 AM to be greeted by the Security man inquiring had I been in to the Plant before ?I said no so I had to do an Induction Course .By the time I had that done it was nearly 11AM .I went into the Canteen where the telly was to go my job was just to fit the brackets .I measured up marked the holes and then the Safety officer came to see what I was doing .I told him and he said I would have to wait until everybody was finished eating as the dust might get on the food .Then he said what tools was I going to use so I produced a cordless Drill .Now it gets better .If your going to drill there you need to get an Electrician to check there are no cables running in that metal studding .So I have to wait for an electrician its now Lunch time so I have to wait till all the dinners are ate .So now im ready to go but the safety officer returns to inform me my drill is not PaP tested si I will need to go to the tool locker and requisition one .Im now pot committed I want to walk but this in now getting amusing .I Get a tool docket signed and borrow a drill .Im ready now to put three screws into each bracket through the plasterboard wall into the metal studding or so I thought .Safety officer now informs me he was not aware that I would be drilling metal I need to get a Hot Work Cert and set up a fire cordren more tool requisition forms for plastic dolls to secure the site and a man from facilities to stand by with an extinguisher .Its now nearly 4PM and the shifts are on a break .So about 5PM I get down to work takes about 10 minutes .Job Done .Now I need to return the tools I signed for to the tool locker but the lads are gone home so the shift supervisor rings one of them to return to open up so I can return the tools its unsafe to leave unattended tools in the plant .About 7 oc tool man returns so there is me the lads from Facilities the Safety officer and Tool Man they are now all on overtine but the company couldnt pay to put up the brackets in the first place .

I see my mate on the job and ask for me coin 80 euro I thought I was getting well paid for ten minutes work .He says I will need a receipt and a VAT number .I say .You know Im not working at that anymore im Driving a taxi I dont have a VAT number .I tell him to stick his 80 up his hole tell him ill donate it to the Sports and Social Club .About a week later I get a thank you card from the Sports and Social thanking me for my kind donation .I see my mate a few weeks later in the bookies and ask who was the smart cunt sending the Thank You Card .He says they had to send the Thank You Card so there would be a record that you done the job as there was no receipt just in case you didd any unacceptable damage during the instillation and they needed to sue you for damages .This is why they have big companies like Dalkia ,and Noonans looking after maintenance and cleaning the small two or three mam firms cant get the insurance cover .

Reminds me of Aer Rianta and all the trades involved in the erection of a Christmas tree. Carpenters, Electricians, display artists, Cleaners horticulturalists etc.

What job did you have before driving a taxi that wouldnt be allowed anymore? I was the apprentice for a company that done load bearing tests on window washers cradles in Dublin .You would go up on the roof and check the gantries and the RUBBER wheels that held them in place .Feed down a heavy cable if you dropped it it would whiplash and smash windows .Then load on the cradle at ground level and load it with weights up to the safety weight plus a bit then you add your weight and run it half way up the building then move it along the rails if it fails you fall .Things turned out so dangerous window washers dont use them any more .No safety harness or anything you depended on the cigarette you were smoking to break your fall .

42 .I have a cert to put on a kettle ..Seriously working down the docks as a sole operator .They sent over a girl from Nottingham the only person in the British Isles QUALIFIED to do the course .I had to come in on my day off for training .The idea is I was trained how to use the Kettle provided in the break room so if I burn myself then its my fault .She arrives introduces herself then she fills the kettle and boils it .Then she shows me the right way .Fill the kettle up to the amounr required above the minimum mark then place the kettle with the handle and spout paralell not facing out where I might knock it or recieve a steam burn .She then instructed me to do what she just showed me .Then I have to do a test Three questions When Filling A kettle do you fill it to the top or just enough for what you need or the amount you need above the minimum line .Then how to place it on a worktop then question £ when lifting the kettle do you lift ny the Lid ,Spour Or handle .Im filling out the form and she is whispering the answers .Then she heads off into the office for about an hour before returning with two certs one for my personel file and a laminated one for me to hang on me wall .Health and safety is a huge business now .

My brother cut his teeth as a nipper on the Beaumont hospital site. Doing the rounds one morning he a brickie called Bobby what would he like for the morning break. Bobby was mad busy and shouted from the scaffold "get us, twenty Players". The brother shouted, "What if they don't have Players?"

Bobby said "Ah just get us anything" Billy brought him back a pork pie! rofl
