Social welfare Ireland: The three reasons you could lose your PUP Covid payment

Those on the payment can lose it if they fail to follow three rules

Those on the Covid Pandemic Unemployment Payment could lose their weekly allowance if they fail to follow any of three guidelines.

This week the Department of Social Protection issued weekly payments valued at €130.31 million to 437,149 people in receipt of the PUP.

But those on the payment can lose it if they fail to follow three rules, as outlined below.

Reasons you may lose PUP

Refuse to return to your place of work following lay off.
Refuse an offer of suitable employment.
Refuse or fail to engage with activation measures – this can include training that will help you find a job.

The Department continues to remind workers who are returning to work that they must close their claim for the Pandemic Unemployment Payment (PUP) on the actual date that they start back at work, in order to ensure that their claim is processed correctly and to avoid incurring an overpayment that the Department will take steps to recover.

Speaking after this week's figures update, Minister for Social Protection Heather Humphreys said: "Today’s figures underline the importance of the Pandemic Unemployment Payment in terms of supporting people who lost their jobs due to the virus.

“Since its introduction last March, over 21 million Pandemic Unemployment Payments have been made to over 857,000 people.

“I know people are feeling weary and fatigued.

“The efforts that you are all making are crucial to keeping the virus suppressed and therefore protecting lives while we roll out the vaccination programme, which is being significantly ramped up this month as the supply of vaccines increases.

“By keeping our guard up and staying course, we will beat this virus and can look forward to brighter days ahead.”

Thankfully our Reps decided in a Pandemic to protest and let the Relevant minister know there is nothing stopping taxi drivers from going back to work in fact they insisted on it .When the Dear driver letter falls on the hall floor Demanding we return to work going to be hard to make a case for staying home when our Rep bodies with the Help of Profit from The People DEMANDED that we should be treated equally with Buskers and wedding singers and allowed perform  for chump change .

When I'm out and about it seems that it's only pensioners working. I'd hazard a guess at suicidal, but don't want to do it themselves. Hey, they might even be hailed a hero!
