EU ask IRELAND WHO THE FUCK DO THEY THINK THEY ARE CLOSING THEIR BORDERS TO OTHER EU CITIZENS  Brexit Backstop was all about Ireland screaming ans shouting about keeping its borders open until it suited us not to keep our borders open .Ireland really is fucking with all its friends ...

The Government has said that it has provided clarity to the European Commission tonight about concerns raised in relation to the mandatory hotel quarantine system.

The commission sent a list of questions to Government Buildings this evening on behalf of concerned EU citizens.

The questions relate to queries about freedom of movement in the EU, how the quarantine system might infringe on them and the criteria used to determine the designated countries.

Travellers from five EU states, Austria, Belgium, France, Luxembourg and Italy, must quarantine in a hotel when they arrive in Ireland.

In a statement to RTÉ News, the European Commission said: "We understand that Ireland requires travellers coming from a "designated" country, irrespective of their nationality, to undergo a mandatory hotel quarantine.

"The commission is looking into these measures as there are some concerns in relation to the general principles of EU law, in particular proportionality and non-discrimination.

"While quarantine and testing requirements are a national competence, nevertheless, when affecting citizens' rights to free movement, such measures have to comply with general principles of EU law."

It is understood the commission became aware of the issue when it was notified by the Department of Health last week of the hotel quarantine plans.

Speaking to RTÉ's Prime Time Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly, defended the mandatory hotel quarantine system and said he was confident it was in compliance with Irish and EU law. He said the Government would keep it under review.

Italians feel 'discriminated' by hotel quarantine list

Earlier, the Italian Ambassador to Ireland said the decision to put Italy on the mandatory hotel quarantine list was "discriminatory" and "excessive".

In a video message, Paulo Serpi said the move would do serious and severe harm to the Italian community living in Ireland.

Mr Serpi said he had written to Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly calling for the measure to revoked.

Passengers arriving into the Republic of Ireland from 16 additional countries are now subject to mandatory hotel quarantine with limited exemptions.

As of 4am, the list of Category 2 countries includes the US, Canada, Turkey, as well as EU members France, Belgium and Italy.

Mr Serpi said: "As you know from today, Italy will be subject to this measure of mandatory hotel quarantine, a measure that hits us and four other EU countries - France, Belgium, Austria and Luxembourg.

"With these countries in recent days we made a decisive and serious approach at the highest levels to the Department of Foreign Affairs.

"It was a joint approach because we believe these measures are excessive and do serious and severe harm to our co-nationals and in particular to our communities here in Ireland and we cannot accept this.

"As we know in the European Union the free circulation of people, goods and capital must be ensured and maintained. The movement of people is sacred. When you close the borders or place limits there must be serious and good reasons.

"I gave Minister Donnelly our national focal points to clarify in the best possible way in the quickest possible time our hopes that this measure is revoked as soon as possible."

Meanwhile, Italian citizens living in Ireland have also written to the Government saying they feel discriminated against following the recent decision.

The letter, which is addressed to the Taoiseach, the Minister for Health, the Tánaiste and the Minister for Transport, said the decision lacks clarity.

The letter by the Italian community says the reason cannot be a generic need to keep variants out of Ireland.

The community is also calling on the Government to make public the criteria that were considered for the mandatory hotel quarantine list.

It says: "We need to know the criteria and the data that led to that decision. From the data we can check ourselves, we cannot find a logical reason why Italy is one of the few EU countries put on that MHQ list."

The letter goes on to say that many Italians have been living in Ireland for years.

It says: "The year that has just passed has been really tough for everyone in the world and for most people it was not possible to visit their families, to join them over Christmas and Easter.

"We too left elderly parents alone during times that would normally be moments of joy and reunion. We all knew very well that it was necessary and, like everyone else, we adapted to the situation as best we could."

Members of the Nigerian community in Ireland have also expressed concern at Nigeria being added to the quarantine list.

In a letter to the Taoiseach and Minister Donnelly, they said that Nigeria has been able to manage and contain the pandemic.

They asked for clarification for the decision to add Nigeria to the list.

So Italian and Nigerian people living here(during a pandemic) feel discriminated against cos we as a country are trying to supress a virus that has now different more virulent variants....did they write a letter to their respective governments when their own countries were riddled and complaining they couldn't go home.

of course they didnt Hal .The Issue is the EU made a total Fuck up of this thing by neglect or design ? The Idea that we were all in this together got kicked around with Some EU Nations deciding on Lock Downs others didnt .We as Normal over reacted on Europe's Behalf by undermining one of the mainstays of European Unity Freedom of Movement .Donnolly the Special Needs Kid never thought this true ,If you are Belgian just fly from a Dutch Airport .If you are Austrian fly from a German Airport .if you Fly in from Britain which is not on the list and you were born and bread in Bradford or Birmingham wher your Uncle Silvio ran a Chipper you are British with an Italian Passport do you need to do the Hotel Goulag or not .See the issue if you judge people by their passport then its Racist and Illegal if you detain people based on where they flew from then its ineffective .What your seeing is a Broken Government trying to break more stuff .If Massimo Campari from Genoa had his two vaccines and flew into Dublin Ireland and took a taxi from the Kesh over to his Auntys on the Lower Kimmage Road and suddenly fainted in the car with a Blood Clot .Could he Sew the Irish Government for forcing him to get vaccinated so he could avail of his right under the Masstricht Treaty to travel freely and unhindered around Europe .Fair Play to the Italians and Nigerians and the Titty Two for calling out this attack on their Rights .Paddy would just roll over to have his belly rubbed by the EU .

dont agree Bullett Ireland is on Auto Pilot since we joined the EU .What we have are elected people with no real power or nothing to do so they invent and create problems and solutions and see if they can marry both together .Good Ideas like lets widen the M50 then lets reduce traffic flow on the M50 or Lets encourage more Cycling for families its healthier where young kids can sit in a plastic box behind mammys cycle at exhaust pipe level .Young Brit Buck must be chomping at the bit waiting on Phil the Greek to be Planted tomorrow .He must feel like a right cunt Leo and the Dublin Massif couldnt put up a border in Ireland so the Brits could remain Brits but they can put up a border in Diblin so Europeans cant remain Europeans as AGREED in the GOOD Mastricht Agreement .Double Standards .Brexit and Covid going to impact on earnings per share in the Community Workers take home pay in Ulster Says No so a spot of Violence and half a dozen shootings should act as a calling card for the Protection rackets .Desperate times and all of that whenever you knee-D to get an earner .

Where did you get your news from 30 years ago?I'll bet there wasn't as much time given to politicians as there are now. It's not them its the amount of nonsense coverage that your eating up.

Personally I don't care if Leo rides midgets in his spare time. You don't ask your pilot what he got in his junior cert or how many bags of coke he snorted for breakfast you just want him not to land the plane in someones garden.Stop reading the news most of it isn't newsworthy.

Eh... whatever about the politics of closing borders it is not discrimination!

It is only discrimination if you treat one set of people differently to any other set of people.

The Irish Government are applyiing the same rules to Irish Citizens.

For example, our fellow citizens on returning from the Dubai cosmetic surgery trip that didnt happen were stopped at the border and both of them were required to quarantine despite their protests.

So, no discrimination here thank you. As for closing borders other EU countries have closed borders during the pandemic.

As far as the EU are concerned Ireland are Scum .We have fiddled taxes due to other EU nations .Ignored rules and regs or delayed them .Now we have undermined one of the main principles of the EU Free movement of People /Goods/and Capital  These are what the EU is built on .The EU have to challenge Irelands victimisation of certain EU citizens while allowing others free movement .Its the underlying principle .If Germany is a banned country what is to stop Germans flying round the problem by driving to Poland and flying into Ireland .Just like Paddy if he wants to avoid the 500 fine for unessential travel just needs to Drive up to Belfast International or City airports and fly and return to either of those British Airports and drive back through the non effected non EU border on the Island of Ireland .We cant have it both ways .Leo squealed like a pig with Broncitis about keeping borders open he even went behind the EUs back and thought he had a deal with Boris .The EU will probably make us look like proper self serving cunts .Then say Dirty Ireland has set a precedent of Closing National Borders to protect their people and the rest of the EU might follow and if that backfires they can Blame the Irish for the policy .With the exception of the Tittygate Two every other person who went to the High Court has been released from detention by a judge .If something dosent make sense it dosent make sense .As Orwell wrote when you can add 2+2 and the answer is 5 and you dont question that your now in Groupthing .2+2 is 4 if it isint then the answer is wrong .

Think that all concerned realise that all in the EU have made so many mistakes, that no one can throw stones at anyone. We are generally accepted as very pro the European ideal.
Trump has called for help, so I'm on a plane heading for The Strait of Hormuz, talk soon.

Didn't Alan Kelly tell your one on Six One that there's adequate provision within EU legislation to suspend free movement on medical grounds... in fact I think the legal term within the relevant paragraph is, in fact, medical pandemic.

The HSE has moved to update the vaccine roll-out on the “working assumption” that there are no supplies of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

Around 600,000 doses of the vaccines were due to be delivered to Ireland between April and June this year.

A report from the European Medicines Agency (EMA) on the assessment of the Johnson & Johnson Covid-19 vaccine is expected later this week.

It is reviewing very rare cases of unusual blood clots that occurred in the United States in people who got the vaccine.

FFS the Fat taxi driver told you days ago the J+jJ vaccine would not be used .Im on 250 a week the mong in charge of the HSE earns that much an hour .
