Don't think so Bob.It was just a misinterpretation of the rules that was repeated on here a few times.Might happen in the future though.

I'm learning a lot today if I am to understand that new saloon plates are available if an EV is supplied.

I read it as being available to new applicants....

But here is the link to the guidelines or see the snippets attached from the guideline document.

When they say new maybe they mean wheel chair accessible electric plates?

They would have had to announce that they were releasing saloon plates again. It kinda goes against their wish to keep putting accessible vehicles on the road.It would make no sense to put existing saloon  plate holders at a disadvantage by offering them less money than any potential new entrant.

Ring them and ask but my money is on no electric saloon plates.

A lot of their publications are worded arseways and have been updated.Best to call them and you might find that even the operator in the call centre doesn't understand the regulations.

I always believed it to mean what Bob thinks it means......the caveat being that it's an EV licence for life.

I'm hopeless at reading these things but my read of it is that the NTA only care about the vehicle being electric and not so much about the driver.  It does sound like a newly licenced driver could buy an EV and get the grant after it's passed out as a taxi.

Quote
4 Who can avail of the Scheme?

4.1 The Scheme is available nationwide to:
(a) persons (individuals or companies) applying for new SPSV licences; and
(b) existing SPSV licence holders who wish to upgrade their current vehicle with a replacement EV,

New and existing drivers...

They will have to open the gates to new saloons within 5-10 years I'd say.  We're dropping like flies and there's no young 'uns entering the game.  Though why would you when robotaxis are supposed to the future?
Getting old is compulsory whilst growing up is voluntary.

Are there no more robotaxis arriving from Africa or India anymore?

Do Ya know what's mad...we're always like no more saloon plates but very few of us actually enjoy driving the fukkin things.

Any little enjoyment I used to get from driving is completely gone now with the constant traffic and new bike lanes forcing us into smaller and smaller spaces. The last two evenings I worked I just fukked off early.City is ruined.Let the robotaxi take over I'm bolloxed..

I emailed the NTA about this point.

Thank you for contacting the NTA (National Transport Authority). We refer to your recent correspondence received on 7th May 2021.

Please note the NTA no longer issue Taxi/Hackney vehicle licences. The vehicle licence which you can apply for with the eSPSV Grant Scheme is a wheelchair accessible vehicle licence or a limousine licence.

that cleared that up .So the prize is restricted to Saloon licence plate owners only who would mainly be middle aged White Men .Was the promotion really to get this cohort to cover work as other Nationalities who rent or drive Crypmobiles already widly support the app .Just saying the conditions are questionable .Did the E mail say you would have to answer a question to gain entry into the draw ,could that question be do you hold a transferable saloon licence to affix to this prize ?

Now Vandriver do you see how unfair this win a car promotion is to YOU .If you won the CAR you dont have a saloon Plate to put on it .If they plate it up for you its not your car it belongs to the plate owner .Like I said before Marketing degree wouldnt know the colour of a Coke Can .
