Drivers who work for City are technically self-employed, SB. As such City have no hand, act or part in taxation or relevant disclosure of their income. Conversely, Free Now frequently advertise the wages available to drivers working for that firm and highlight the ever growing so-called gig economy within which it operates.
If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.

An average brief could drive a coach and six through that argument.

It's not an argument. Self-employed men have always been required to submit their own tax returns. The same regime currently applies to men who work for Free Now. However, Free Now issues it's drivers with payslips detailing all work completed for the firm including the value of cash jobs as it's invoicing system requires the collection and retention of such data i.e. it's drivers are employed on a piece work basis being paid a percentage of the value of each job completed.

You may remember a crowd called Taxi Drivers For Change drawing Revenue's attention to a report filed with the EU by the Swedish taxation authority which concluded that compliance is significantly enhanced where drivers subscribe to "high-tech" dispatch systems such as that operated by Free Now. Obviously, in the event of audit Revenue will know the level of verifiable data available to drivers who work for Free Now. However, there is no legal requirement for drivers to subscribe to any dispatch firm and there is no legal requirement for any dispatch firm to record the value of transactions completed by it's drivers.

How do earnings from the old-fashioned cab companies like City get into the drivers' bank accounts, seeing as cash jobs are also routed through the so-called hi-tech system?

The gobshite in chief even went into print to laugh at how many cash "Leggers" - as he called them - his drivers suffered in the previous year. Oh, how he laughed!!

I'm not sure how city pays it's drivers but In my day with C2K we got a cheque for account jobs which most lads just put back in with their freight the next week. It'd be very rare to have more than €80 in accounts back then. I guess it's probably done by bank transfer these days but if there's no commission on cash jobs they won't have any bearing on payments due anyway.
If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.

I'm guessing O'Connor couldn't get in contact with his dealer. an awful hoor for the speed twenty-odd years ago allegedly.
