Looking at that site they want you to send them the dpf (removing it probably another few hundred depending on how friendly your mechanic is)

They are only 10 minutes away from where I live, so hopefully I can drop the car to them and collect it the next day.
Even if it is a Monkee, it's a lot better that 2464.77 !

I must talk to my local mechanic first (whom I trust) before making a decision about what to do.

Ken do your sums and see how much it would cost to upgrade to a second hand Corolla hybrid. This DPF is gonna keep costing you over the next few years.Sell the avensis while it's still worth something.

Maybe DPF failure is Toyota's real reason for ending production of diesels?

With Ken's luck the battery would probably explode ifn he bought a hybrid. I guess the conundrum is that his motor is wort €10k scrap against an EV and probably will be for a few years yet regardless of condition.

Would removing it be an option with a mind to having it cleaned and replaced if it fails the NCT? I know lads with the old petrol Avensis who used to get CATs fitted just for the test, a lad in Donabate sorted them out. Maybe a similar policy for the DPF i.e. fit for test, take out next day?

Someone said before that that particular engine was developed and borrowed from BMW as Toyota had given up on diesels. Not many of us on here would wanna taxi a BMW but essentially that's what Ken has.All the unreliability of a luxury brand in the chasis of a boring Toyota.

Set it on fire Ken and claim off the insurance.Everyone makes mistakes...

The young girl / old woman that typed the estimate is hardly fixing the car. She probably knows less than you about mechanicy thingys.

Can't see the price on that, Ken. What are they looking for?
