Ken do your sums and see how much it would cost to upgrade to a second hand Corolla hybrid.This DPF is gonna keep costing you over the next few years.Sell the avensis while it's still worth something.

I will get it fixed this time around regardless of the cost as I do really enjoy the car and there is 5 years left on the license but if it acts up again I will have a re-think. I don't really want to go Corolla hybrid automatic till I'm over Sixty which will be at next license renewal.

I talked to my local mechanic this morning, he was totally against the idea of fully taking the DPF out of a 5 year old car saying that if it was an old banger then maybe yes, but defo not on a 171.

He was also against the idea of paying Toyota 2.5 large fer a replacement DPF, and suggested that going to JD motors fer a DPF clean was by far the best option, so I'm booked in with them fer Monday 21st Feb and should have it back the next day and the cost as expected is a Monkee which is a lot better than 2.5 large. I'll let ye know how I get on.

I'll throw a bottle of that Wynn's DPF cleaner stuff in over the weekend to keep it ticking over till the 21st.

Whilst having the dpf cleaned ask your mechanic to take out and clean your egr valve .

Dja know that when one renews one's regular driving licence, the renewal starts from the date of application, and not from the expiry date of the one which one is renewing? Just lost 2.5 months on it. Pity that they don't tell on that before one applies. Apparently there is a Euro regulation to cover that .

fuckin disaster.
went for renewal up in ballyscum earlier and failed because the time on my meter was twenty minutes out of whack.
you're bleedin jokin me. never noticed it.
then i remembered a few year ago the blondie wan over in skan sayin the meters go out of a whack a few minutes every year and ye wanna be wide to it and fiddle it back every once and a while.
i did'nt hear a word she said because i was imaginin myself on top of her with my boney arse goin ninety bouncin up and down.
now i havta get the meter resealed and do a retest but they're all backed up te fuck for a couple of weeks.
i'm havinta after havinta book one in ken country down the bog in athlone for friday.
what is the crack for the licence renewal though. do i havta book a retest and if so how much. can't reference antin online about retests. or do i just show up at northpoint again with the failure sheet and say the meter is grand now stick the bleedin stickers on.

I don't think you have to get your meter resealed and re-verified unless you took the security stickers off?  The time on the meter on my old Octavia used to wander a bit.  It was only a ten minute job and a €15 for the guy in the garage to set the correct time.  On top of that, most meters allow you to change the time by a couple of minutes every week or two, depending on the model & if you remember.

Re the licence renewal retest (or suitability retest), I think you just ring up and rebook.  Why are you going down to Athlone?  If you rang tomorrow, you'd probably get a retest in Ballymun next Mon or Tues?  The price is the same, as far as I can remember, but it's an expense against your tax bill so not the absolute end of the world.

your man that failed me said ye havta ger the time fixed and sealed again to pass. your man over in skan broke the seal to fix the time. the earliest resealing i can get is athlone.

Reply: By law  you are only allowed to adjust the time by + or - 2 minutes every seven days, its quite simple to do, download the Irish owners hand book from the link, at the bottom, if you have not adjusted your time over a very lengthy period, the time could be out by a greater amount than 2 minutes, you have two options, the first option is to reduce or increase the time every seven days by 2 minutes, or contact you nearest ATA installer who will adjust it for you in one go.
