I got a new meter to go with my shiny new EV taxi.  The next meter sealing appointment was something like a month away.  Technically you could be fined but you can't expect a self-employed driver to park up for a month or two just because he was doing his bit for the environment and all the little children on planet earth.

Same with your taxi driver's licence.  The Gardai give you your paper licence which is the legal bit but it takes the NTA 4 or 5 months to actually give you your plastic licence which is the bit you get fined for.  Technically you can't work until you get your bit of plastic but obviously it's ignored as long as your licence application is on file.

We're great in this country at making rules but hopeless at enforcing them.  Don't stress it  :2cheers

around 10 year ago i hadta rent a taxi for few months til i decided what new car i wanted. it happenned to be round the time of a new fare increase and the renter said wudje mind goin over to skan so smiler grogan himself can update the fare. when it was done ken had half the seal stuck near the radio and other half remained on the meter. i says to the renter what'll we do about the meter sealing. it is sealed he says. no ken hadta break the seal to update the fare. no it is sealed he says. i did'nt realise he was playin dumb and what he was sayin was wudje ever fuck off and leave me alone please. i cellotaped the removed portion of the seal back on to the meter perfectly where it met the other half. around two weeks later i was parked onna rank watchin an interview with dirk benedict from the a-team and gorra knock on the window. taxi regulator. show me this show me that. print us a receipt. pleasant aulfla. he peeped in at my meter and smelled a rat. is the meter sealed. as far as i know it is. it looks funny. maybe that's just the way it was done he says and shrugged his shoulders and moved on to the next car. the new seals are'nt stickers. it's like a button recepticle and the button itself gets clipped on over it at the meter sealing. like clampin a wheel. no fiddlin with that sucker.

That seems to adequately contradict your previous assertion. Apology eile accepted.

I have the new one... It's like a miniature ball of thread that women and the like would use for darning socks or some such. Not sure how it fits on the new fangled mirror meters?
If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.

...but nobody got fined. Even at that, happening upon an enforcement officer is a once in a lifetime chance, in my experience.

if you are a solid ranker 2 times a year.
with the prevalence of the apps the only place you might get stung would be at a checkpoint which i've only encountered once in my career. 5 year ago lashing rain saturday afternoon and the cunt asked me to gerrowt and show him the safety kit. i saw a guy get the full old bill treatment from the regulator outside the wright's hole in swords a few year ago. it cudda been something proper like a cloned car or sumtin but i'm a well respected member of the community and there would be uproar at the guards from the people if i was caught doin something wrong. can't risk it.

Well respected when they want a neck to puke down the back of... It didn't bother you in the rental. Contrary to your belief, if anyone was fined in that case it would be you as the offence is to operate the taxi without a properly verified meter. If you were an immigrant you would have been fined and/or shot.
If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.

The inspectors are at the Airport and Heuston station all the time. You don't interact with them really. They put your number in the phone app and unless you've been warned about something or missing a wheel they won't bother ya.

They let the taxis come to them at busy drop of points to maximise their number of checks for their statistics.

Why don't they tackle the immigrants clogging up the filling station at the airport? Where's Drew's firing squad when it's needed?

It's not an offence to have an unsealed meter in a taxi unless it's plying for hire. Only a licensed driver can ply for hire.
If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.
