A group of Spanish tourists claim they were overcharged by a Dublin taxi driver who took them in the “completely wrong” direction.

Robbie Esani, who runs a campervan business 16 kilometres from Dublin Airport, explained that his customers were upset to find out that they were taken around the block by their taxi.

A lot of their customers travel from the airport to the campervan, site so Robbie estimated that the average cost of a journey would be around €25 to €28 - but the group client were charged €90 earlier this week.

He said: “One client came in on Monday, at the minute we don’t have shuttle buses running to and from the airport so they got a taxi.

“They gave the address and the taxi man basically brought them in a loop via Ashbourne and then back around to our address.

"The journey should cost roughly €25 but their journey was €90.

“They were very upset and furious as well because it cost so much and took so long. I sat down and explained to them that this is normally not the case, the journey shouldn’t be so expensive and should only be 15 to 20 minutes.”

Robbie continued: “The taxi man brought them completely in the wrong direction and made a loop around the ring road of the M3.
If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.

Took, a client (restaurant worker) to Lucan from Monkstown at 3am. At the end of Monkstown Rd FN/Google were directing me to the M50. I suggested the city to the client, "I went the M50 yesterday", how much says I,"€58". Told her that the city would be cheaper "OK". She was very happy with the €42 fare. I was happy that she was happy buty unhappy that FN took €8.30 as it was a hospitality job which I normally never take, but on this occasion I was right beside the restaurant when the job came in, and it was going to Lucan.

It's nice when they say M50 on the basis that your woman on Google suggests it's much quicker than you know it really is. Had the Darndale Hilton to Walkinstown via M50 on that basis at 21:37ish of a Tuesday or a Wednesday a while back. Your wan said alternative route was 11 mins slower... Was it fuck!

No your wrong...the answer is..your in the wrong taxi now please vacate and find someone else to annoy because when there's tension from a customer over routes etc there's always a problem with payment at the end

Another recent one from Boards, though it's FN that gets the blame initially.

Think the Default on Free Now is M50 or else based on most popular civilian Rout does not take into account taxi lanes .As exampled if you approach College Green from Pearce Street going to Dame Street with Parliament street closed off so you go via Fishamble Street .Thankfully some of us are Taxi men not taxi drivers and know the right way .
