Rationing
« on: March 09, 2022, 04:57:29 am »
If the shit hits the fan and we have fuel rationing .What are the chances or taxis being restricted to save fuel by only allowing plates ending in odd numbers work on every second day and even numbers on the alternate days and drivers getting paid on the dole for days not worked .Beginning to look like China and America are getting exactly what they wanted a fucked up European economy that cant compete with them .With the exception of Britain and Norway dont think any other European countries have their own oil supplies .If fuel is rationed is anybody considering lapsing their plate and going on the dole for a year ?

I reckon taxis will be at the bottom of the list after all other really essential services if things get bad. They managed fine without most of us during Covid.

Kinda makes you think would you be better staying with the vehicle that takes petrol or diesel and could you be in a more vulnerable position if you switched to a leccy motor.

I got me grant offer yesterday for the leccy grant like others ,but I'm having second thoughts in the current climate.Mainly because the leccy prices could also go through the roof.Smart thing might be to do nothing for a year.

All the official bodies from local Irish upto the EU all claim we have enough oil & gas until the autumn.  By law, all EU countries have to have 90 days reserve of oil...  I think there's just a logistics problem at the moment and a bit of panic buying.  Give it a couple of weeks and things will be calmer (but still expensive).

Re EV's, only posh people can afford to buy a private EV so there's no way Govt are gonna piss them off by rationing electricity.  In any event, you can charge your EV via your house so they'd have to cut the power to your house to stop you charging your EV.  Though I am surprised the cost of external chargers hasn't gone up yet.

Yeah, if your taxi is viable for another year, why increase your business expenses by getting a new(-ish) taxi?  Hoard the cash.  According to the erm, you might need to buy a gun, not a taxi by next year :D

A gun is much cheaper an easier to get at the moment than a decent priced motor. But that's another issue altogether.

At the price you paid Watty you will be fine. The bloke floating around in a 50k leccy motor might be more at risk as he will likely still owe money for it in a year or two and potentially be getting limited how much leccy he can get.Sounds very pessimistic but..I'll probably change my mind again tommorow anyway.

I think the vast majority of the fleet is already restricted by DSP, either through a cap on permitted profit or a cap on working hours.
If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.
