Best of luck, Physch... Might be worth renting the plate out for the time being. I've escaped once or twice over the years but, as Tarmac suggests, I've started enjoying it again on my return. Not relying on it to pay the bills probably helps but a change often is as good as a rest.
If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.

Best of luck with the new job.How did the Dacia duster handle life as a taxi by the way..

No complaints with the Duster.Wouldn't drive anything else. 1.5 diesel great mileage.Engine bay is roomy also,so easy to service. I'd recommend one.

I'm getting out of the business after 25 years. My hearts not in it anymore.I tried cancelling my Taxi insurance today for a private policy but they want proof I surrendered my license.

Anyone who needs A digitax F1 meter and printer and a fairly new Roofie give me a shout. Also a brand new never used taxi screen for a Dacia Duster message me.

Any tips on gettin them bleedin stickers off? >:(

Would you not be tempted to rent your vehicle out for a year while you adapt to your new normal life to see how it goes , I’d be wary of letting your plate lapse just in case your new gig didn’t work out.

I just feel I need a complete break to make the new job work. Keeping the plate is like a blue blanket. Its going great at the moment.Home every night and my weekends off.A long time since I've had that.

Good luck with your new venture.  Work to live, don't live to work!

Like yourself Phsychidelic I tried to put private insurance on my car but it wasn't worth the hassles jumping through all the hoops so I kept my psv insurance on it, I did get to speak to a nice Irish lady in allianz and she told me even if I did jump through all the hoops to detaxi my heap I basically would be starting over as a first time driver with no NCB as they can't carry over taxi NCB to private NCB and vise versa.
So my taxi insurance fully comp is €1.650 and for private it would have been €1.800 or there abouts.

There is some value to owing a saloon plate but it's probably not worth it for most.Ten year rule on a saloon plate is very restrictive.Wheely plates will always be available.

The most important thing to be careful of is your taxi NCB.After two years it lapses meaning the insurers could charge you as a newbie again.Depending on their mood they could screw you on your return.Ya probably knew that already.

Also just remember if you let your spsv driver licence lapse you'll need to study a little for the geography test to return.Sounds easy until you have to do it.
