It's much easier just go leave things as they are. There is a sticker available from the NTA to promote card payments. As soon as you make it part of the suitability they'll want some elaborate set up that costs a lot more than a sum up terminal.Freenow, Bolt and Uber can discipline drivers by switching them off their platform.Thr NTA don't want to deal with any of that. There's too many thieving cunts in the fleet.

If some new app came along they'd need to be charging something on top of the card fees.If it could be done cheaply already someone else would have stepped in.

The new lads starting in the industry would likely go home if their smartphones stopped working. The don't know any different.Just get the next fiver and enjoy your last few years in the indistry.

By the way most of my commission is convered by the PUC so I don't see problem.I usually don't take jobs far away from where I'm at.

I knew you could put a credit card sticker on the roofsign but I didn't know there was an 'official' one!  The NTA really does love plastic stickers on taxis  ::)  I wonder if they're readily available to buy?

When did the rule change that you could put that on the roofie .If we got some bigger ones for the rear doors I bet we would win back customers from the Apps especially late at night when passengers have gargled all their coin .Do the NTA provide them .I see its the last item in the Document .They kept that quiet why did they not issue them to ALL frivers to promote use ???

Erm you're on here more than me that stuff was discussed on Roy's place years ago. We've passed the point of no return with the apps.

I remember thinking or someone else saying that it was a poxy design. It doesn't really look like a credit card to me.

I like cash myself and am in no hurry to promote card usage off the street. The fees are still too high.

Same PDF doc but page 24.  Under advertising...

Quote
Requirements
Only the official card acceptance logo may be displayed, see Fig 1, Page 31.

Signage/adverts displayed on rear doors cannot exceed 1600 cm2 in area (per door)

Quote
Reasons for failure
Unofficial credit/debit card logo

Sign(s) on a rear door exceeding 1600 cm2 in area

I wonder could you get the official CC logo blown up to 1600cm2 (40cm sq) & stick it on the rear doors?  Might look stupid though?

The NTA design isn't great. But you can put whatever you want on the doors as long as it's not offensive and within the size limits.A simple " card payments accepted" would get the message across.

We've already got a problem with Freenow cash customers trying to pay by card after we've got them in the car.I personally wouldn't be trying to encourage them. Most are too dumb to understand why we don't like paying 17% commission on our work.

Fuck that. A "Cash Only" sign is what you want ifn you work after midnight of a weekend. They can't deny a man his right to legal tender. To do so would make paying the fare optional and would invalidate PSV insurance as a contract can't exist without consideration.

Legal tender is legal tender. That's what we're entitled to and what constitutes consideration in establishing contractual obligations.

(pg 50 of 69)

You're late to the game.  According to the latest taxi survey, ~80% of taxi drivers now offer cashless payments (if I'm reading the graphs correctly).  In other words, passengers are more likely to meet a driver who takes cards than a driver who does not.

How many of that 80% are referring to using an app .We should have big fuck off door stickers saying we take card .I have had conversations with customers who complain that they cant app a cab late at night .I say its because of the commission when there is plenty of street work .They say they use the app as they dont have any cash .I just wonder how much work we could claim back if we ALL offered Card Facilities ?

The graphs are hard to understand but I *think* 76% of the 80% have something like sumup and 67% of the 80% also have an app.  So there's a lot of overlap, I think?

You mighta been right about the 18th surcharge, erm... The 25% bonus from Bolt yesterday certainly made a difference. In fact, if one was to attempt to quantify it one would suggest it increased relevant takings by a quarter... but then, that applied for 24 hours i.e. including fares after 19:59:59.
