Solar pannels .
« on: May 25, 2022, 09:16:13 am »
Has anybody got them ?Do they only heat the water or do they generate electrical power for the house .How do they actually work ?There are a few videos on line but you would need another video to tell you how to understand the first video .

Hot water only

UV rays from sunlight activate the cells in the solar panels which they transform into electrical currents which goes to a pump near your hot water cylinder

I don't think I would bother with them though for the price..any I have saw in use are shit

At the end of the day if your getting solar you no its to heat the hot water..you shouldn't and wouldn't really be supposed to understand the technical side of how it works..like a computer,a car engine,eh a waste water plant..any of these things work but we most people don't actually delve in to see how they Actually work if you can understand, it just works..

I rang a crowd to find out and yer man was not interested intelling me until he came out to the Gaff with the Grant Form .Some I think are hot water only to heat your Rads and tank up a little bit you use the immersion or boiler to top it off and some feed into storage batteries others you can get a meter in the Gaff and feed electricity back into the Grid .It would be easier to write to the Pope and ask what colour Mary Magdalins Bush hairs were and get a straight answer that talk to the Sandal wearing Mungbean munching tree hugging Solar Pannell salesmen .

I don't think it's for the likes of us.  It's too expensive and too technical and, like the EV's, it's fashionable and you're likely to be ripped off.  To really take advantage of solar, I think you have to get a few batteries as well and they're super-expensive at the moment.

If you have the money, the SEAI offer a one stop shop where they do all the legwork and give you a quote to upgrade your house/car/life/world.

Yeah, it's a bit of a rip-off, funded by the Govt.  It's like the EV's.  The installers of the home chargers *know* you've got a €600 grant in your back pocket so prices start there...  I don't know what the solar grant is but you can bet prices start there and only go up.

Im not interested Really just they are building Gaffs at the top of the Road and they all have those targets on the roof for kids to fuck stones at .I was interested in how they work .Think its only Greenwashing by the Council .So one end of the Road they are fitting Solar Panels and the other end they are cutting Trees .I blocked up all the Fireplaces in the Gaff but am thinking of opening up the one in the Living Room again .There WILL be power cuts from October .Lad in the Dail yesterday said we only have ONE source of Gas coming from Scotland to top up Corrib and Kinsale that comes from Norway through a pipeline .The TD asked about Supply and was told that Gas and other fuel oils will be RESERVED for electricity Generation .The word RESERVED must mean there are problems with supply or you would not need to RESERVE it if there was plenty ..Plenty of factories around me so I might look at a log burner and harvest old pallets .If the Russian Gas is switched off you can be sure Germany and France will get some of ours .Think we need to be like the squirrell and get ready for winter .

There's two types. One generates electricity and the other heats water. I think most of the roof panels you see predominately on new builds are of the latter type. An acquaintance of mine installed the former type complete with battery packs in his Spanish villa and is now fully self-sufficient for electricity. While he does have a back up generator he hasn't had to employ it yet but predicts using it for up to 12.36% of his annual consumption which includes running a swimming pool and a pair of average mileage EVs.
If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.
