Taxis out of Bus Lanes
« on: May 30, 2022, 09:41:41 pm »
Heard Cllr Janet Horner on the radio this morning calling for taxis to be removed from bus lanes as the "experiment" which began in 1984 has run its course.

"Theres now 20,000 taxi in Dublin and they are clogging up the bus lanes".

Also,"traffic is moving more freely now since taxis are not allowed use the bus lane in early morning on College St-Trinity College- College Green" , She provided no evidence for this.

So there you have it, the Greens (who else) want to get rid of taxis in bus lanes.

They got their bike lanes, pedestrianisation of Capel St and now want to get us out of taxi lanes.

Remember them come the next election

Sure as far as they're concerned we're not part of the transport network...but will complain there isn't enough taxis to get Simone and Tristan home the moment they step out of gay Spar!!
Passengers rely on taxis to get them from A to B in early morning traffic and they(we) don't clog up bus lanes, they only thing that clogs up bus lanes are buses due to bad management of time schedules,College green is a mess because 3 or 4 buses on any street causes chaos,I counted 10 buses one morning running through D'olier St onto College St,ridiculous planning but ye won't see Horney Janet putting it up to the unions of Dublin Bus.

She did actually say that she didnt believe that taxis were NOT part of the public transportation system

Just ignore it .How would they police it .There is no law against breaking down .Just stop the car lift the bonnett snarl the whole town up .I was in the City center last Friday about 5Pm and the Lights on O connell bridge changed 3 times before I could get across as the Luas was blocking the Bridge as it is to long .Cars in the Yellow box on the North Side of the river prevented the Luas from moving forward when the lights changed for it .The biggest hindrence to Dublin traffic is the Luas .

Restricting access to hired taxis could be a sensible compromise.
If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.

That makes no sense really, there could be someone a little bit down the road with filthy cash in one hand and the other one just waiting to flag down an empty...which there wouldn't be...in a bus lane, and with thousands if not millions of people waiting in the city centre for that elusive empty that's sitting in traffic on any street or road with a bus lane and stuck in shite traffic!!

Well, there's only 10,001 PSVs in Dublin for a start!  Putting us out of the bus lanes would shut down 90% of our industry.

A large part of the 'College Green' problem is that Dublin Bus for whatever reason seems to run its entire fleet through that narrow corridor.  Just stand on O'Connell St bridge at 9am on a weekday and watch the backlog of buses from O'Connell St over the bridge & down D'Olier St.

And there's only a handful of bridges to get across the Liffey so we're restricted in how we deliver our passengers where they want to go.  Shutting Capel St to traffic so a few dozen people can drink coffee in the open air seems stupid IMHO.

Getting old is compulsory whilst growing up is voluntary.

Hal they get elected .When I suggested we try the Greens had ONE Dublin City Councillor the Multi millionaire Mr Cuffe and one TD Mr Ryan .I have a mate who is a City Councillor says Deliveroo and Uber eats are lobbying for those bike bollards to keep their drivers safe  when they have a heavy backpack ans wobble under the weight .The Capel Street thing is to create a Gay Friendly out door space as we enjoy a lot of Gay tourists and they are trying to regenerate the northside into the Northbank from Capel to O Connell .

As distinct from Bertie Ahern's West Bank.

"Bertie is the leader of our bloody country," said another. "He should be able to speak and spell correctly." Others said the blatant faux pas was an indicator of "what wasters we have supposedly running our country". Bertie once famously expressed concern about upsetting 'the apple tart'. He has described Dublin's Temple Bar as 'Dublin's West Bank'. He has cautioned people about 'throwing white elephants and red herrings at each other'. 8)

If we get put in the regular lanes the traffic gets much much worse for the other motorists. There's a lot of shite on the radio these days. Too many stations with very little decent content between them.I don't bother listening to any of the current affairs outlets as they just rotate the shit stories between them all day. Some competing stations are owned by the same company.

There was some worker form the journal.ie complaining on newstalk radio that she doesn't feel safe in Dublin and complaining that she can't find a taxi to arrive at her feet at short notice.Even using the Aishling Murphy murder as a reason for more taxis. What a load of bollox.
