FYI electric motors in Ireland ?

Analysis: there will be over 100 electric vehicles available in Ireland next year so here's a look at the various options

Your electric car options have been multiplying for 2022. There will be over 100 vehicles on the market, ranging from battery-electric vehicles (BEV) and plug-in hybrid-electric vehicles (PHEV) to hybrid-electric vehicles (HEV). We have visited the dealers and researched the various options so read on if you are looking to buy in 2022.

We have had some changes in government subsidies in the last year. All the prices quoted for battery electric cars include a government grant of €5,000 for any car costing less than €60,000. Vehicle registration tax (VRT) relief is additionally available on BEVs, but with limits kicking in at €40,000. A €600 grant is available towards the EV charger. VAT at 23 % is additionally part of the price of all new cars in Ireland. Unfortunately, the prices for the plug-in hybrid-electric vehicles have gone up, as they no longer will benefit from any government grant from 1st January 2022.

There are a lot of supply chain problems in the car industry right now with significant delays for many car companies due to Covid, parts shortages, and logistics so your showroom may have significant delays in getting you your new car in 2022.

The following alphabetical list is a starting reference for electric cars on the market in early 2022. The vehicle type is shown as coupe (c), crossover (x), estate (e), hatchback (h), liftback (l), saloon (s), people carrier (P) or SUV (V).

Please note that there may be some errors or omissions, and that there will be variations due to delivery charges. New vehicle launches are fast and furious in the electric vehicle world so check with your dealer as to prices, models, range and variations.

Battery size is additionally provided for each vehicle. The presented value can be either the gross or available battery size. Gross battery size in kWh is likely more commonly presented here, but useable battery size in kWh is also presented in many cases. The useable battery size is less than the gross battery size. This is important as using less of the gross battery capacity extends the life of the battery. The car manufacturers can provide either or both numbers. For example, the first vehicle listed below, the Audi Q4 e-tron, has a gross battery size of 82 kWh while the available battery size is 76.6 kWh.

The standardized WLTP values are published in Ireland for range and mile per gallon (mpg), and so are used here, but we do note that there can be varying interpretations of the test values.

Most are not available to walk out with and you might have 3 months or more waiting time .Took me 4 days to get a front passenger side wishbone and ball joint for a Renault Fluence .Spare parts are in short supply seems that a lot of bits were made in Ukraine especially Window and door rubbers  .The China cough is back in China so bits made there will be scarce .Supply of Duracell Cars might be tight for the next year or two .
