It's probably gonna have to increase at every meeting by at least 0.25℅.Slow in slow out kinda thing. Some think it's not fast enough.Ay least they're giving people plenty of warning.

If the fuel wasn't so expensive they'd be moving a bit faster with the increases.

Unfortunately C5 the second hand prices are so high it's working out almost as cheap to buy new over the years.Second hand potentially clocked Priuses are 16k for 6 year old motors.

I'd easily get ten years from a new Toyota.Although I'm not as active as some of yis this is my only job so it's not like I've got other easier options.

@RC what's your plan for another motor?Electric still?

I'm gone off electric a bit. I think keeping my current yoke for the remainder of it's allowed 10 years (2026) is favourite at the moment. Whether I'll go electric at that juncture will depend on available subsidies, if any. I bought my 2016 MKIII Octy with c.109,000 kilos on the clock back in Jan 2019 for €11,995 CASH. Looking at comparable cars these days it seems that one would need to have almost double that amount on the hip which is ridiculous so I'm kinda thinking new could be the sensible option if things don't change significantly in the next few years.
If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.

Good plan RC ,2026 is a long time away in this industry. The leccy thing could easily turn into a disaster.Watty paid relatively little so he's safe.

I'm still thinking there might be more age extensions.Next few months will be the time for the NTA to let drivers know.I can't see them forcing any drivers to take vehicles off the road in the current climate and media frenzy over lack of cabs at certain times.

I wonder.  Anyone driving a 15/16 yr old taxi has been doing the suitability twice a year since their taxi turned 10.  Every suitability cert gives a specific date on when your taxi has to be off the road.  I was one of those drivers and I/we have been reminded 10 or 12 times now when our taxi expires...

There is/was a 3 year scheme to bring ~1,800-2,000 EVs into the business.  *If* it works out, that's replacing ~10% of the 19,091 PSV vehicle fleet in 3 years! (Or 16k saloons if you exclude WATs)

NTA are gonna have to bite the bullet at some point.
Getting old is compulsory whilst growing up is voluntary.

I agree Watty but we're taxi drivers not financial planners. Many of us would rather blow the money on something else rather than a new car.Especially when the car we're buying is remarkably similar to the one we already have. It's awful wasteful.Take my heap out of the equation and there are a lot of 2012 Priuses gonna be off the road that are arguably cleaner than the diesel that's gonna replace them. Some lads are only getting 3/4 years out of their vehicle. Not a lot really.
