UK Prices but will we follow ?
« on: August 27, 2022, 08:23:04 am »
Electric vehicles will be more expensive to run than petrol equivalents from October as the latest price cap hike punishes drivers for going green.

The unit cost of electricity will nearly double under new energy prices released yesterday, taking it to 86p per kWh, up from 56p. Petrol prices have fallen in recent weeks and stand at £1.70 per litre, in comparison.

As a result, it will cost more to travel long distances in an electric car than a petrol one – even before factoring in higher purchase prices for greener vehicles.

The owner of a Jaguars i-PACE, an electric SUV, would spend £99 more to travel the same distance as a driver in the petrol equivalent, the Jaguar f-PACE, according to calculations by breakdown service, the RAC.

The petrol version can travel around 400 miles on a full tank of petrol, which would cost around £50. The electric model only has a range of 290 miles and would need multiple charges to travel 400 miles – this would cost £99 more after October’s electricity price hike.

The same is true for cheaper models. A Kia e-Niro owner would have to spend £88 more than a Kia Sportage driver to travel the same distance.

The e-Niro will cost £33.80 to fully charge from October compared to £18.37 at the moment, RAC estimations showed.

The firm’s Rod Dennis said those who charged their cars at home would really feel the impact of October’s energy price rise.

Privatized their ESB and Water so its all about profit for shareholders .Irish ESB prices will double by January we make Electric power out of Gas Powered furnaces Gas Prices go up then Electricity goes up .I often wondered why they dont use the electricity generated by those windmills to rotate the blades when there is no wind or better why they dont use Electricity to turn the turbines to generate Electricity .You would think its only a matter of Better bearings Clutch and gears to get more power out than you put in .Should be a simple sum .The more you make the more you make ?

How much does a Full Charge cost you now ? I recon Im @ about 12/13 c per Km

Charging costs vary but say 30c/kWh. Home is cheaper and ESB more expensive.

My MG5 has 58kWh battery and a summer range of 350km.

So 58kWh x 30c = €17.40. Over 350km, that's 5c/km.

HTH  ;)

Uk Economy is broken Maggie Thatcher sold off everything .From ESB to water to Rail .Britain is a Kleptocracy run by thieves for thieves .Look at the past employment of most of the Government Ministers Goldman Sachs or some other Wealth Fund unlike most Irish TDs unemployable .I have Posted before and I truly believe British Troops will be ordered on to the streets of Britain to keep control .There was a generation of Brits who fought in the War and believed Government governed for them .That generation are dead this Generation will question and resist .You see the beginning of it with Climate Actavists not happy with things as they are .When Lads that answer questions with" Innit Man you is dissin me .Cant find enough stuff to rob or pay for drugs or their Giro dosent cover their Sky TV fees they will feel hard done by .There must be a few Million people in Britain disillusioned it will only take a spark to ignite it .November when England get knocked out of the World Cup Millions full of drink and Disappointment flooding onto the streets might be that spark .

Now with Facebook and twitter if it kicks off in London it will spread .Unlike Brixton or Toxteth in the 80s the Police contained it and it was over before it started .If they are not afraid of the law whats to stop a few 100 getting togeather and looting a whole Street or Town .We are not too far behind Britain .Full of Migrants and Homeless wait till we start to see 8or 10% unemployment .This IS WW3 its being fought among ourselves not with bullett or bomb yet .Watch and listen to the Silence coming out of Italy .Putin and America both have the same aim the Destruction of the EU .Cynide Tits will start the ball rolling .

Dont know if Economics is your thing Watty .But a Euro is now worth a Dollar .The exchange rate use to be 140 .In effect US earnings in Euro is reduced by about 35% that is going to have a huge impact on how much tax we can help US companies fiddle so our tax take goes down .You and Me are lucky Watty wont struggle to pay Mortgages or school fees or heat the whole gaff .Absolutely deluded Irish media reporting that companies cannot get staff not pointing out Irish Companies cannot afford to pay staff proper wages .Like I posted during the week a third of the Units in Park West are vacant .I read somewhere Facebook have cancelled some of the Work in the Sweepstakes building and half of the new build office space on the Docks has not yet got a tennent .

i am not telling anybody what to do just be aware of whats to come before they make big financial commitments .

The govt should...but won't intervene in the "energy crisis"....companies recording record profits that seems acceptable to be maintained and not pay tax on these profits,it seems reasonable that wages should rise to meet these increases but govt will say that will lead to increased inflation,I'm no mathematician but it's glaringly obvious that if companies are allowed to continously increase prices to maintain huge profits...well then start there, where is the energy regulator in all this...same place the bank regulator was all those years ago no doubt...at sea..flailing!!

Apparently them data centers use 14% of the country's electricity...heard it on the radio or sumtin ...imagine if thers power rationing or cuts in the comin months ...surely they data centers wud be the first to be switched off so as to heat homes an provide for cookin an essentials like the
The telly ...
If they ar switched off ..wall happen to amazon an Facebooks an all them ?
There be a mighty row  if they not first to be turned off ....then fakebooks an amazon...Will they not pull out to go back to America wer the electricity is guaranteed an cheaper?
Or do they need them in ireland/ Europe  ?
If they are shut down ...wat happens to all that data ?   I mean ...do they put all that hardware on a boat an it's all interrupted until it finds a new home to live  in ?

Occi the Government has Guarenteed the Supply and agreed to discount the cost of electricity to Data Centers .I asked a TD to find out if this was true and he put in a request and was told that he could not be told as this was a Commercial contract .
