Save Energy get an EV or Electric bike
« on: September 07, 2022, 04:52:52 am »
THEN DONT USE IT >>.Every household in the country will be expected to curb their energy use this winter as the Government prepares a plan to avoid blackouts.

Ministers believe record utility bills will have a “shock and awe” effect on families, leading them to voluntarily reduce their usage.(GOVERNMENT ENERGY POLICY ) rofl rofl rofl rofl rofl

A massive campaign is now being planned to inform consumers on the best ways to cut back on their electricity usage in the months ahead.

Government sources said “fear and anger” could take hold once the first bills of the autumn/winter seasons start to arrive.

I use what I use to live and I can't do more. They are in a bubble. People that have those heat pumps in new houses will regret not putting in a stove which is allowed to get planning permission. But there is nothing stopping those houses from fitting them in after the house is built.

Ya I know. they use heaps of kwh those heat pumps. A back boiler stove pump uses between 40 and 80 watts depending on what speed its set at. A neighbour has one of those heat pumps and told me their esb bill for last December/ January  was nearly 700 euro, they are shitting themselves with worry for next December /January which could be around 2000 euro. They are putting in a stove right now.

I believe the house has to be super-efficient and insulated before these heat pumps can make a difference.  So for every 1kW energy you put into them, you get 2-4 back.  But if your house has a few drafts or the attic isn't insulated properly, it all goes back out in no time.  I believe your house has to be A2 or A3 rated for them to make a difference.  And only houses built in the last few years would be that good.

The €700 ESB guy was probably mis-sold a heat pump by some chancer who promised the earth.

I think for most people in the average house, upgrading the attic insulation & the windows and eliminating drafts is as good as it gets.  Oh, and maybe a new boiler if you can afford it.
Getting old is compulsory whilst growing up is voluntary.

Watty the house is 9 years old. the house up the road from us in a 3 year old house with no chimney is getting similar bills is in the same boat, they have no lights on most of the time only in the room they are in, and they started doing that earlier this year. We compared bills for heat and electric for us it was 1600 euro in 2020 for them it was 2300 euro. They are all electric we are electric, wood and turf.
