^^^Octy you'd need a windmill the size of a bus to charge an EV at any respectable speed.I'm sure it's on the way but it's a few years out.I'm seriously considering putting a deposit on a brand new Corolla hybrid.Feels stupid but there aren't that many options.

I agree John the energy enthusiasts are a bit like a cult.

Watty you been smoking the Eamo herb .You car will power your gaff and your gaff will power your car and Eamo says buy a few candles and a Ganzee with matching Knitted Beard and a PP9 battery for the old wireless set up in the attic .Oh and dont forget your old people chech to see if they are dead .
I'm not expert so I can't defend it.  But I think the idea is something like this but on a massive scale and complexity.

There's a huge demand for house power between 5-7pm when everyone makes their dinner.  (And apparently the ESB can tell when there's an ad break in Corrie because everyone turns on the kettle.)  During those two hours, instead of burning oil and gas in power stations for leccy, you'd take it from the thousands of EV's just sitting there doing nothing.  Then when it's quiet (after midnight), you can recharge the cars from the grid.   Or the house battery if it has one - the house battery can use solar or wind power to recharge during the day when the house is empty.

So energy demand is smoothed out/evened out, leading to fewer spikes and therefore less need to burn oil and gas in the power stations.

She hasn't disappeared -->  https://twitter.com/GretaThunberg   More likely, the press has just gotten bored with her and moved onto the next story.

It would take a long while to charge a leccy motor with a petrol/diesel generator.Could be trouble ahead.Even in the last few weeks I've seen new EVs plated up.Big gamble alright.

No for now but soon if it has the right connection.  But many of the new EV's coming out now will have the technology for 2-way charging.  Ultimately, you'll plug your EV into a house with solar panels and they'll all swap electricity with each other and to the grid and everybody will be happy.  Or something like that  :P

I don't think that's in any way realistic for domestic premises. Standard gaffs these days have a 64amp consumer unit which obviously equates to 64 amps maximum draw before you blow the main fuse. That's nowhere near enough to facilitate the faster and faster chargers that will develop. In reality I reckon it'll all go backwards i.e. the filling stations will have the super fast chargers and that's where most folk will chose to fill up... probably as quickly as buying a tank of diesel, in due course... and probably as expensive!
If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.
