Free Now Surge Pricing
« on: November 01, 2022, 12:29:55 pm »
I picked up a young lady on Sat evening fron Collinsisis Avenue to Darndale who said she was charged €19.10. I only got €15 of it before commission... well €18.67 if you include 1/15th of the €55 bonus.
If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.

I won't. NTA - who were once responsible for setting maximum taxi fares - now say Free Now can charge whatever it likes.

I'm not sure about that, VD. It seems too precise to be an estimate... and why would they estimate a fare (i.e. xx.10) that isn't even possible?

The evidence suggests the fucking wankers are just a shower of robbing bastards.

Three extras plus the tech fee would be €19.

Dunno about the 10cent.

They are robbing bastards though.

.... Free Now seem to be surge pricing these days nights. I picked up a young lady on Sat evening fron Collinsisis Avenue to Darndale who said she was charged €19.10. I only got €15 of it before commission...
So break it down fer me;
The lady sits in your cab on a FN journey.

When was she charged the 19.10 ?
As in Before or After the journey ?

And how did you find out about it ?

Newbies are often a bit nervous and ask if the journey will cost XX like the app says.  I say I've no idea & it's all on the meter.  It's always less on the meter and FN overestimate.  They get confused at the end and I get a bit annoyed and say *I'm* charging you YY, I don't care what the app says - now get out.

Even had a guy one day saying he had a 30% discount voucher on the FN app for a cash job.  Oh, how we laughed as I put him right  >:D

She told me when she got in that a driver had already cancelled and the last time that happened to her they took the fare twice. On that occasion it took her 8 emails and 14 weeks to get her money back and she doesn't think (but wasn't sure) that the second - non-cancelled - fare was ever adjusted to the amount claimed by the driver. In fact she suggested that "Free Now always charge way more than they give ewes" but fell short of suggesting that the shower of stuipd wankers are robbing fucking bastards - to paraphrase another Free Now client who I met in a public bar some time ago.

It's an open goal for them in the 5 or 6 hairy hours every weekend.

Street fare driver profit Versus FN driver  profit. Not much benefit on short hops because of the pick up charge, and you have to travel to pick up
€7/€9  driver gets €7/€7.65
€8/€10   "       "    €8/€8.50
€9/€11   "        "   €9/€9.35
€10/€12 "        "   €10/€10.20
€11/€13 "        "   €11/€11.05
€12/€14 "        "   €12/€11.90   At €12 fare the street hail is more profitable than FN, more likely to generate a tip,
immediate payment as opposed to a wait of up to 7 days, in which case the client will
also be charged an extra €

€20/€22 "        "   €20/€18.70
€40/€42 "        "   €40/€35.70
€60/€62 "        "   €60/€52.70
More long street fares required.
