Free Now rent them out for €1 + 20c/min in the beautiful seaside resort town of Balbriggan but they're only resellers for a crowd called Tier. If you download the Tier app instead and register without adding a payment method they'll send you a free ride token in a day or two on condition that you add a payment method. I've been meaning to have a go on one but haven't got round to it yet.

Fingal Co. Co. provide dedicated parking spaces for them so they must be road legal. Having said that, Fingal Co. Co. did once add a "Hackney Only" info plate to the signs at the start and end of a fully marked official taxi rank in the beautiful seaside resort town of Balbriggan. It turned out upon enquiry from a local taximan who shall remain anonymous that said signs were totally illegal and had to be removed.

I know Minister Ross promised legislation years ago but I never heard of the same being implemented?

14 incidents involving e-scooters every week last year, say gardaí (RTE, 20 Jan 2023)

There were 746 traffic incidents involving e-scooters recorded on An Garda Síochána's PULSE system last year, an average of 14 per week, according to new figures from gardaí.  The figure is up 106 on 2021, when 640 traffic incidents were recorded.  Twenty-eight incidents have so far been recorded on PULSE since the start of this year.

E-scooters are currently illegal to use on Irish roads and footpaths, but legislation is going through the Oireachtas which will legalise them here.  Under Irish law electric scooters meet the definition of mechanically propelled vehicles, which means they cannot be used in a public place without tax, insurance and the appropriate driver's licence.  Since it is currently not possible to tax an e-scooter this means it is illegal to use them on public roads and footpaths.

I have to say that my experience of this huge (35kg) bike import from China was frightening for me.It was like the old days on my motor bike, except it was so quiet……Never again!
