I've yet to come across them in the 19 years of their existence. Anyway, if you're not misbehaving you've nothing to worry about.

Sure don't they give thieves and drug dealers their licence back?...albeit reluctantly.

All vehicles can take a folded wheelchair so we have no grounds for refusal Watty.Even the vehicles that have smaller than usual boots should have been tested to take a folded wheelchair.

I was behind an MG5 on a rank a few months ago and the driver sent a wheelchair back to me..I knew it would fit in his car but I don't think he wanted the dirty wheelchair in his new jammer.I took it anyway just to get away..

The boot in the MG5 is surprisingly small.

I would tend to agree with you but what if you had to lift the passenger into the taxi?  We haven't been trained in manual handling so you could do your back in?

Edit: I wouldn't refuse a wheelchair passenger without giving it a go. Just thinking out loud.

Watty the luggage capacity can be overlooked for certain cars but it should fit a wheelchair folded up.You may need to rotate it and fold the handles or remove the wheelchairs foot rests but you'll get it in.If the NTA are no longer requiring a folded wheelchair it opens up a load of other vehicles for taxi use.

I was under the impression the past the NTA have ruled out Corolla/Auris hatch backs and Lexus IS200Hs as they didn't meet the wheelchair requirement.

I heard ya don't like the cripples now Watty...nobody's perfect.


*****Also ya never have to lift them as they're usually fairly well able to lift themselves out of the chair across into the seat.Some probably are only in wheelchairs due to age and not because of an inability to move the legs at all.

Possibly Rc..but it was up to the Zoo from the Spire... so it was a decent fare.He probably thought it genuinely wouldn't fit.

Maybe the driver didn't want to risk getting a parking ticket?

Last time I passed the zoo, there was no legal parking/drop-off at the front.  And around the back, technically it's "buses only."  So the taxi driver would have to go into the public car park and hope for 2 adjacent empty spaces (can't use the disabled bays without a blue badge) or drive up the North Road (one way now!) at the back of the Zoo and drop them off there and let them trek back to the zoo entrance! 

The zoo is not very taxi friendly    Used to be a handy spot to swing by if you were nearby because parents and tourists would be knackered after traipsing around the zoo for 3 hours and they'd be desperate for a taxi back into town.  But not anymore.  There's nowhere to stop legally.

Got a fare years ago when I had the Octavia (which did have a very big boot).  It was for the Clontarf Rehabilitation Hospital in, err, Contarf.  I pulls up and this woman drives out and wonders if I'd fit her 'wheelchair' in the back. 

Err, no missus, I don't think it will.

I did make a very half-hearted attempt to lift it though

There's a smaller version of that scooter that is much easier to get in the car.Just remember to remove the battery pack before you try to lift it or you might injure yourself.
