Nothing wrong with that, CB. Keeping the existing vehicle on the road as long as possible is the most environmentally sound option for a couple of reasons. First, the environmental cost of manfacture and delivery of any new vehicle is astronomical and, second, when he does eventually have to let it go technological advances will result in a far more environmentally friendly replacement that might be available now or might have been available 3 years ago, etc... Fair play to him... although, I must admit to not being wholeheartedly committed to eliminating climate change on a personal, rather selfish, level... given the summer weather we've been getting in recent times.

If you take the currently cheaper running costs and generous grants out of EV ownership there wouldn't be one electric taxi on the road.Any Taxi driver who says they're doing it for environmental reasons is spoofing or worse misinformed IMO.

Absolutely. The most environmentally friendly option is to keep an existing car on the road. The NTA grant scheme, by design, does the total opposite. But even if electricity cost as much as diesel the grants would still make them attractive... as does the relative lack of maintenance.
