That's interesting John but when and why did they change? Many of those older names sound more interesting than the modern ones. All those newer brit sounding names are a bit over the top.

.... Wolfe Tone Street was Stafford Street ....
Surprisingly Fair lane in Corks northside where Henry Ford's wife's step-father was born was renamed as Wolfe Tone street. Henry Ford even named his own home/mansion as 'Fair Lane' with 2 possible reasons.
I. Being that his company was run on Fair lanes.
2. Because of his wife's step-fathers birthplace.

Was it anything to do with a parade, on a grand scale?
If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.

Scaldy old name.

It got the Name as it was the way condemned men were taken to the Gallows .They use to Hang them in the Port so visiting Sailors knew Piracy or Rebellion would end in the Rope .the best named place in Dublin is Ropemans Walk .It was a side lane that the Hangman used to get to the Gallows where the Public could not attack him or friends of the Condemned could not prevent the Hanging by killing the Hangman as only he was licenced to do the job .The Original Ropemans Walk runs through the Offices facing the Ferrymans Pub .Those offices are the Offices of the Official Recievers .Imaging going in there to have your millions taken and walking down the Corridor to Mr Wallaces Offices which is probably built on the old footpring of Ropemans Walk .Some Evil Cunts have a strange Sense of Humour .Next time you are down that way check out your Sat Nav it still appears on it .
